Was going to try these for the first time next weekend - any particular brand you'd recommend for a novice? Would probably be going for understated rather than full-on...

Go to a beauticians and get half a set of individual ones. They last weeks and look much better than DIY ones.

That could be an idea, any idea of the rough cost? Also does it take hours, I'm not sure if I'll be able to fit it in before Sat!

Also I remember a friend saying hers were a bit of a pain to grow out afterwards as they all fell out at different times, leaving her eyelashes looking a bit weird - at least with the normal ones you can just take them off I guess?
