Good basic t shirts?

SpaceUnicorn · 03/06/2016 20:48

Ok, does this exist? I'm after a t shirt that:

Isn't too fitted/clingy
Washes well and doesn't need ironing
Doesn't get twisted out of shape after a few washes
Has a nice 'drape' from my ample-ish bosom but doesn't make me look like I have no waist
Isn't too 'boxy'
Comes down to at least mid-hip
Not too high-necked, but doesn't show the top of my bra

Am I mad? Does such a garment exist? Confused

Help, please?!

Primark all the way although I'm in the Republic of Ireland where it's called Penneys I'm currently wearing a €3 one of those Primark/Penneys t-shirts as I speak! Smile

notagiraffe · 05/06/2016 16:34

H&M or Primark do the best versions of these. Go a few sizes up as they are longer in the body and shaped but not clingy.
The M&S one with the longer sleeve that Over mentioned is also really gorgeous and flattering.

MadisonMontgomery · 05/06/2016 16:38

I have found my holy grail tshirts! Free People tshirts - I like the free fallin shirts but other styles look good too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/06/2016 16:42

People who are recommending the £8 M&S ones - are they (the shirts not the people!) really short, like the M&S cheapo ones always used to be?

puglife15 · 05/06/2016 17:05

I've just bought a lovely linen tee from H&M that fits this description but couldn't tell you yet how it washes. Think it was 12.99.

I bought some linen cotton mix ones from Uniqlo last year and lived in them (but they were quite boxy). Wish I'd bought more.

Friends of mine swear by All Saints but I can't justify investment spends at the moment as I'm a weird shape having had a baby.

Remus - No! I used to hate M&S tees and avoid them as after one wash they were tent-wide crop tops. These ones with the long arms down to just above the elbow are long in the body too and keep their shape when washed.

StarSpotter · 05/06/2016 19:43

Please can someone link to the m and s ones with the sleeves to elbow? Ta!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/06/2016 19:49

Thanks, Giraffe.

notagiraffe · 05/06/2016 19:55

Starspotter these are the good ones. Ignore the ordinary ones that go baggy after one wash.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/06/2016 19:59

Typical M&S colours though (ie bloody horrible mainly).

Tote · 05/06/2016 20:00

Primark.......last much much longer than they should for the price.......and now that means I don't really NEED new t-shirts for this year's holiday because last year's are still going strong......but I WANT to buy some new different colour/pattern ones anyway.

Abbinob · 05/06/2016 20:03

Another vote for primark, the only plain t-shirts I've found that dont make me look awful.

Longtalljosie · 05/06/2016 21:24

Yes to the horrid M&S colours. I went in there to get new t-shirts and actually said "yeurch!" out loud when I found them! Has anyone ever woken up one morning and said "Do you know what I'm missing in my life? A puce t-shirt..."

I got some from White Stuff in the end. They do have the Pointless Pocket and need ironing but still washing ok so far.

Banana Republic do fabulous essential T-shirts but sadly only in black and white these days

Which is a shame - they used to them in a range of really lovely colours

witsender · 05/06/2016 21:46

My favourite tees are linen, I find the material hangs much better. H&M have some nice ones.

2ManySweets · 05/06/2016 21:49

Another vote for Primark here! Nice and long Star

bingisthebest · 05/06/2016 21:50

I like the Boden ones too. Bet I have found.

H&M.. My basics from h&m last years!!

OverAndAbove · 05/06/2016 21:59

Yes, those are the M and S ones. I have them in grey, navy and white. I wish they did a cream one but those basic colours are good!

SpaceUnicorn · 05/06/2016 23:42

Oh my word, I love you all!!! Grin

So many to try. Especially the linen ones. I love how the linen ones hang.

Thank you thank you thank you Smile

Primark. I've not yet found anything that lasts as well and with such a great fit. Long in the body too so not boxy.

3dogsandacat · 06/06/2016 09:20

The White Company.

Their t-shirts are a good length, aren't boxy and don't go bobbly in the wash, which I find some M & S t-shirts do.

They're a bit pricey, so I get them when they're on sale.

3dogsandacat · 06/06/2016 09:27

Why do m & s and next make their t shirts so short and boxy? Nobody likes that style.

What's going through the the designers mind. ''I could design this top so that it sits nicely and compliments the person's figure, but no we don't want to do that! Let's make it too short, too wide and in a horrible stiff material''
That'll fly off the shelves'' Hmm

3dogsandacat · 06/06/2016 09:29

''Oh and let's make them in lots of disgusting colours, that won't go with anything while we're at it''
