THICK THICK Hair

I have shoulder length hair which is incredibly thick, it takes half an hour to blow dry and then needs straightners through it.

I'm at the fed up stage and want to get it all cut off but opted for a fringe. DH likes it longer but his opinion doesn't really influence me. I often cut it, grow it but now at the point I just tie it back as I can't be bothered

What can I don't next, just get it all chopped??

Have you had it short before? Does it work? Is the gamine look good with thick hair?

You can have it! It just sits there doing nothing.

I've had short hair quite a few times before and it does work but can't think of anything to do with this mass of hair. It just seems like the easy option to go for the chop

I have massively thick hair, it's coarse and there's lots of it, too. I use coconut oil before washing it and then let it air dry, but most of all I have a hairdresser who cuts it to length (collarbone length bob) then razors the everloving shit out of it. It sits soooooo much better afterwards, she says she takes about 75% of the volume out of it.

Get it razored.

I have proper thick thick hair like you, takes 35-40 mins to dry and then is massive so needs straighteners. My hair doesn't look that bad when it's dried and straightened but I've never had a hairdresser who hasn't commented on how thick my hair is. The things that work for me now and makes me love my hair:
I've grown it out to about my bra strap and the weight really helps to keep it smoother.
I've got a really good cut with some longer layers in
But the absolute best thing is a nanokeratin treatment. It is expensive, lasts about 10-12 weeks so I'm told,
I've only had it done for the first time about 4 weeks ago but I genuinely take 5-7 mins to dry my hair now.

I would love a pixie cut but I would look a total state.

My hair looks amazing when styled but half of the time I just can't be arsed.

I have massively thick wavy hair. I'd say it takes about 45 mins to dry. I've realised, after 15 years of straightening and wearing it up, that I just have to embrace the bigness.

I went sulphate and silicone free, did curly girl method (google it) and had a really good haircut by a curly hair specialist. My hair is now becoming curlier by the minute and is less frizzy than ever before.

It look about 6 months to transition (but I think that's a long time) but now I love my hair for the first time ever.

Worth a try before giving up and going for the chop?

My daughters hairs the same - we brought an ohhh that's nice hairbrush from boots - it's flexible and has lots of gaps to let the heat through - now takes 15 mins to dry - also helps using a very absorbent hair towel/wrap that soaks up the masses of water in it!

My hair isn't straight or wavy, just somewhere in between. I've tried the curly girl method but it just doesn't work for me. Or maybe I don't have the patience.

I do like my hairdresser, he's been with me through thick and thin (or long and short) if I get it short, I have to get it shaved underneath. He's trying to get me to hang on a bit longer. However I'm at the hairdressers every 4 weeks when it's short.

And as it's not got dye in it I could make a fortune on "virgin" hair

I've had a posh spice crop and a Frankie from the Saturdays cut. The longest my hair has ever been was for my wedding when it was below shoulder length.

My hair is the thickest. It's driven me mad since I was a kid. Not really curly, not straight. Nightmare.
I had lots of lengths, but settled on v v long. Any shorter and it puffs out like you wouldn't believe. Made my hairdresser promise she wouldn't cut it short again...
Would you consider going long?

I don't straighten, I'm wavy/curly but also very very thick and I've gone for a graduated Bob so still length around my face but short at the Bach which is a godsend for drying it!

Razor cutting is good actually. When my hair was OK and was thicker I found razor cutting made it lie nicely

Razor cutting is the answer. I wish I'd found someone who knew about it years ago - I adore my current hairdresser. Thick short hair can look a bit Action-Mannish if you're not very careful.

Has razor cut been around for a while? I think I remember getting it done about 15 years ago but it went out of fashion?

I think you are swaying me towards vv long, only another year to go.... Might have to give it a shot and see how it sits.

You are all so lucky. My thin thin hair dries in 10 minutes without a hairdryer! Always looks rubbish.

My hair is very very thick with a slight wave. I have never been able to make it look nice wavy or curly. It takes over 30 mins to dry, same again to straighten and I technically really have a half head of hair, since I've had it undercut to about eye level since about 2007- the weight of it was giving me headaches but most people don't even notice it is undercut as I still have so much hair.

Is this nanokeratine treatment expensive as in £40 per treatment, or as in £300 per treatment? I get my hair cut at my local (rural Scotland) barber so have no idea of the cost of things, but like the sound of it!

The one I went to (in Wiltshire) had an offer on so I paid £116 with shampoo and conditioner. You need to use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner but I've seen some on Amazon for £8 for both. The usual price of mine is between £100 - £120, but some places up to £150 I think. I figure £10 a week to save me at least half an hour every time I blow dry is well worth it
