make up for eyes for wedding

I went to Bobbi Brown for a make over. I am mother of the bride and want to look my best (naturally). My eyes did look lovely with a goldie pallet but I felt the shimmer highlighted my eyes being not as firm as they were (late 40s). They used amazing eyeliner from the eye shadow pallet on the top lid but I doubt if I could do that for myself. I did buy one thing which was the stick eyeshadow. I nearly died at the prices and could not justify the £34 for a quad of eyeshadows however lovely which I would probably use once.

I did like the shimmer in some ways and it was out of my comfort zone.

Any thoughts?

If you have lined eyelids then shimmer can draw attention to that. You might be better with something matte. There are lots of nice little palettes from drug store brands now that are very reasonably priced. Loreal and Maybelline do some good ones.

they're not too bad and it did look lovely but maybe I could buy the equivalent from a less expensive brand. Do others rate Bobbi Brown.

I have booked in with Clinique as I think it is slightly more reasonable and might be slightly subtler.

I've not actually used Bobbi Brown, but it is a very highly rated brand. I like Clinique. I've found their eyeshadow to be good. They do nice duos as well, which if you really liked both colours could be an alternative to buying a palette.

Makeup Revolution are available in the bigger Superdrug shops and have a dupe for just about everything.

I always think the assistants at Bobbi Brown use so many products as they are trying to get you to buy as much as possible. I've got to the counter and asked about a particular product in the past but they've ended up using quite a lot of different products. Maybe its just me but it's irritating!

If you see an assistant whose eye make up you like approach them!

I've found when doing a wedding make up trial, the brides tend to favour the Urban Decay Naked Basics or Bourjois single shadows as the UD palette is completely matte and the Bourjois have more of a satiny finish (ignore the dark brown glittery one).

1, the UD is £22 and can be used for every day make up afterwards, 2, that the Bourjois are £6.99 apiece and are always on 342 offers. 3, they hold up very well especially with a good eye primer underneath.

I say this because I do a lot of trials and when some of the brides see how much the make up costs, they then buy it themselves and do their own make up. For this reason, I always take a book of face charts and a price list of all the make up I have in my kit.
