I'm having a full on midlife crisis and dh and I are ditching the children to go rave it up on worthy farm. We are both 40 this year and want to have a bit of a big year so lots of trips, meals, adventures for us both and for us as a family. I'm super excited! I've been to the festival a couple of times before but that was BC (before children) and now I am older and sadly more vain I need outfits and advice on footwear.

So far I have
Decent rain gear
Wellies
Straw fedora, sunglasses

I have all the things like sun block, vests, lots of socks, various wipes, dry shampoo, travel straightening irons etc etc.

Footwear-
Wellies- yes when wet or cold, but what else should I have for my feet?

Clothing-
I have denim pinafore dress and a couple of tops for under
Jeans and a jumper/hoodie
Denim shorts
Hippie type top

What do people wear on their feet accept wellies?

I used to wear army surplus desert boots. They were great.

nilbyname · 02/06/2016 09:35

I should mention we have a van so surplus of anything isn't too much of a problem.

I'm loving the idea of a sparkly cape!

A cross body bag or bum bags were really popular so you can be hands free.

onedogatoddlerandababy · 02/06/2016 10:04

Do they not let you have campfires anymore? That always helped with the cold at night, as did alcohol Wink

I assume they still don't let you take in glass bottles - I used to buy a box of wine, take out the silver bag of wine with the tap bit and pack that to save on space.

I've always worn birks in hot weather, wellies in wet, dm's in cold. Job done.

Don't forget the TOILET ROLL GrinGrin

Oh I fucking love Glastonbury.

I would just aim to wear wellies the whole time, there are always muddy areas and I think they look great with most festival outfits anyway.

Whenever I've gone I've taken outfits that can be worn with or without tights/leggings I.e shorts and tops or dresses. I stopped taking playsuits cos they're just a nightmare in the portaloos.

Thermal tights are great for the colder days and evenings thick and comfy.

Deffo bumbag or over shoulder bag and a decent Pac-a-mac.

Long socks for under wellies.

A lovely cosy hoody for the tent.

Flip flops for just nipping out of the tent for something.

Lots of glittery facepaint and makeup. I always treat Glastonbury like a 5 day fancy dress party, the hippy look is boring imo, I always god for as much sequin and sparkle as possible.

PenelopePitstops · 02/06/2016 10:08

Forget the wellies unless it's a quagmire. Walking boots or similar are much better for your feet and more likely to stay on because you can lace them.

Leggings are the best, under dresses, tuck into boots and thin enough to dry.

Don't carry too much around the site, just go with the flow and enjoy.

IJustLostTheGame · 02/06/2016 10:51

Don't forget wet wipes and a washing up bowl. You can wash yourself in it and then fill it with water and keep your beers/wine bag cool.
I also find a head torch useful for nighttime loo visits.

EachandEveryone · 02/06/2016 11:14

Where are tiy camping? We are usually opposite the pyramid at the top of the hill. Great views and its surprisingly quiet after 11pm. This year we are glamping. I know its against everything glasto stands for but we are fast approaching fifty and im not ready to give up on it yet!

My friends take dressing gowns and im always jealous when i see them wrapped in them but id never have room for one myself.

leedy · 02/06/2016 13:24

Ah yes, wet wipes, aka "the Glasto shower". Agree with the head torch as well. Also you'll need a small backpack or crossbody bag for carrying everything round with you (rain gear, sun hat, layers that aren't currently on you, little bag with loo roll and hand sanitizer, booze, etc.), though yes, as Penelope said above, don't go too mad carrying stuff around as you'll be doing a lot of walking/standing. While saying that, be aware that depending on where you're camping "just popping back to the tent" can take an hour...

Ah, I'm all jealous now, I've been about ten times but not in the last eight years. Might need to convince the grandparents that they'd love to have the offspring to stay for five days next year...

nilbyname · 02/06/2016 17:03

It's going to be ace!

Dh will carry a backpack and I'll have a cross body bag for hand sanitizer, light layers, tissues and lip gloss. (Priorities Grin) .

Am going to take a bikini and friend has a solar shower so I can have a wash if i fancy it.

NaiceVillageOfTheDammed · 02/06/2016 19:37

All the good intentions of outfits, solar showers and straighteners will go out of the window.

You don't want to be lugging heavy bags from the car park to where you end up pitching.

Stay dry, warm, big hat, sunscreen and moisturiser.

My top tips:
Layers - lots of them.
Skirts - you won't want to drop trousers on portaloo/drop loo floors.
Dark nail varnish - so you don't see the accumulating crud.
Boots, whatever the weather - people will stand on your feet in the crush and by Sunday you'll be knee deep in plastic rubbish.
Flip flops - just in case you manage to use the showers.

Have a cuppa in the Tiny Tea Tent for me (if it's stil there).

EachandEveryone · 02/06/2016 20:54

Dont forget u will be walking for at least an hour before you find anywhere to pitch, it really is hardcore.

nilbyname · 02/06/2016 21:04

We will be in the camper van field with our van so no lugging shit from the car.

Good tip about the wine bladder and even better tip about no Trousers. Practicalities. Too much wine and wee wee trouser bottoms.

Dark nail Polish- genius!

EachandEveryone · 02/06/2016 23:51

I used to get shellac done but it ruins my nails. I get it done on my toes though.

NaiceVillageOfTheDammed · 03/06/2016 18:18

It's not your wee you have to worry about (loos/trousers)...

nilbyname · 03/06/2016 18:30

Oh no! No poops for me!

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 09/06/2016 11:11

I need either some cropped trousers or a sundress that has some arm coverage

EachandEveryone · 27/06/2016 19:38

Did u go? I bet all fashion went out the window. The mud was horrific.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 27/06/2016 19:42

Yeah what a mud fest Sad. I wonder if OP will ever go again?
Some of the acts were amazing, I loved Muse and Underworld (from the comfort of my sofa Wink)
