So... my hair needs you. Desperately.

My hair is inherently crap. Fact.

To be fair to it, it's an ok colour. Blonde, with lighter and darker tones that work well together.

That's where the positivity ends.

It is thick. The front (from just behind my ears forwards) is straight. The top layers at the back are kind of wavy, and then underneath (if I hang upside down) it's pretty curly, in a loose curl way, rather than ringlets. Oh, and it's got some frizziness going on around the sides mainly.

Basically, I have at least three hair types on one average sized head :(

I tend to keep it long (2-3 inches below shoulders at least) and wear it in a messy bun every day, which works because it hides the madness, but I'm so desperate to be able to wear it down.

I have an active ten month old, so don't have the time to style it or straighten it really, though it does usually get a half decent go over with a hairdryer (otherwise it would stay wet for a year, it's so thick). Not opposed to putting in some products to help tame it, but am clueless as to what.

So... Help! I've got an appointment booked for tomorrow lunch. Any ideas what could look good with my hair type(s)?! I need to feel better about myself :(

It's sounds like we have really similar hair. The only way I can get it to be manageable is to get it cut with no layers. All the same length, no fancy nothing! And it actually works. Btw I'm 33, and I've only discovered this in the last year. I have a shoulder length bob, and it's really easy to deal with now

My hair is naturally all over the place. It's very dull, hangs very flat and makes me look depressed.

I had a tight ringlet perm yesterday and my eyes look bright and I am smiling - which I didn't feel like doing for quite a while.

You can still keep the length with a perm, they've come a long way since the typical 80s perms. You can even have a straight perm or a loose ringlet perm. Google pictures of perms and you'll see what you can do.

I found that no matter what style I chose to cut it into, the flicking on one side and the curling on the other always came back within 2 washes. At least when I wake up in the morning, all I need to do is run my fingers through my hair to get it back in shape all over! Grin

Lovely. You would never know it was wavy there!

Moroccan oil is amazing. If u like it theres various styling products available on line. Their glimmer spray is amazing and smells like a summery musky perfume. Well worth it as lasts ages too.

That looks lovely , great length too !

I'm just in awe of how the hairdresser made it so sleek and straight! Dreading tomorrow when I have to wash it (I skipped the wash today, so that I could enjoy the feeling a little longer!). It's naturally about three times more pouffey than that picture :(

Well, I'm equipped with all the products under the sun, so wish me luck!

That looks great!

I was coming on to suggest a perm too, I think it'd be a lot easier to mange than having to straighten it for it to look 'right'. Maybe something to consider.

Would love to see a picture of it au natural.

isthatmytshirt · 30/05/2016 14:38

MadSprocker, I'll try to get a photo of it next time I've not played around with it..! At the moment it's got loads of unnatural help to make it manageable..! By tomorrow it might have gone back to "normal", so I'll try to take one in the morning. I'll warn you though, it ain't pretty ;)

I have the total opposite hair, fine and dead straight, forever trying to get body into it.

It looks great. Forgot that my hair has only been more manageable since discovering Kerastase Oleo-Slim range. I think it's being discontinued though (helpful post - going to check with the hairdresser on Thursday)
