Black bra under white silk shirt

I'm off out on Saturday night for the first time in over a year. I have some new black jeans and a white shirt (not sure of the material but I'll pretend it's silk). I have bought a lacy black bra underneath and had visions of me looking like a chic model in my black bra/white shirt combo. The shirt isn't completely see through but you can see the bra colour underneath.

However, I have since remembered that I am a 5 foot, size 16, mousey haired woman and not the 6 foot, blonde glamourzon I thought. Will it look shit? I could possible pop into a shop primark tomorrow to get a nude bra instead but haven't really got the time. I have tried it on with the shirt but I'm not sure and don't have anyone to ask for style advice! I don't want to look stupid or like im trying to hard to be sexy when im obviously not.

The other option is a vest underneath but again, I'd have to nip out on my break to get one so would rather not.

if my shirt and bra was so interesting to someone that they felt the need to look.or laugh then I'd just think they had a seriously boring life

I think wear it! Fashion is about being brave. I think it sounds nice, sexy but sophisticated.

I think you need to be comfortable with that look to carry it off with confidence.

I wouldn't but my bust has shrunk so much there is nothing to show off.

Black bra under sheer white top could look raunchy/sexy bordering on tacky but if the top is light weight rather than sheer it will probably just look a bit scruffy and as you say something that Cara Delavigne could style out might look a bit off on us older, more generously proportioned women.

Nude bra would be the least visible option but if you want a hint of something sexy showing through you could look for something peach or dusky pink in Primark? Even white might do it, showing through in more subtle way.

Nude bras can look crap under white tops.

Assuming you're white, go with white or red. Try it, red looks nude under white tops.

Why not just wear a vest type top underneath? Might make you feel a bit more comfortable if you do find someone staring

Thanks everyone! I've tried it on again this morning ( thanks to a 4am wake up call from ds) and it does look a bit shit, I think liiinooo is right. If it was a sheer top it might be ok but then you'd see my flabby stomach but I think you can only just see it underneath, it looks like I'm just wearing a black bra under a white shirt iykwim ( which you probably don't, I'm a bit delirious from lack of sleep)

Thanks to everyone trying to give the the confidence to wear it, I haven't really got much confidence since a bad break up from ex dp AND piling on about 500 stone. I just wanted to feel sexy and comfortable but you're right, I will probably feel awkward and a bit like a twat.

I have got a red bra in the depths of my wardrobe so I'll try that so thanks for the tip whoever suggested the red bra and if that doesn't work I'll head to primark for a sexy nude bra/top

Quick bra update I have an exciting life. I tried the red on and it worked amazing in a softer light but when I looked in the bathroom (which has quite a harsh light) it shone right through. So I've nipped in tesco on my way work and brought a nude one, fingers crossed it will be ok because I can't afford any more bras
