Sorry EatShit I have heard you say you were short and couldn't wear heels.

Although you are much younger than me and many others will be I need help.
Would you be so kind as to either post some pics or describe shoes I could wear with dresses.
I'm stuck in a rut and want to get out of Jeans and convers into some nice dresses.
I can't wear heels and have problems with my right foot, it's often very swollen, will never be ok again.

Pumps are fine for daytime and look ok, but hopefully working soon so need nice sandals and shoes, the type you might wear for night out, so nothing converse related.

Tan coloured don't suit and can't wear ballet style due to foot injury.
Good colours are navy, black, red, or stone.

I really like flat sling-backs, in a variety of colours (tan, patterned fabric, silver metallic, black patent ...). Boden do them on a regular basis.

Are you able to do low heels?

Yes, I'm ok with low heels as long as they are very low.
I struggle finding a style that will go with dresses and want to look a bit prettier than my usual farmer look

I'm nearly 50 too, so something that might look right on someone younger may look a bit daft on me now.
In the 80's I used to wear docs with dresses and it looked good, I'm not sure that would suit now and the style of dresses are different.

I will look at sling backs, never thought of Boden, have never shopped with them before

I'm short and only wear flats or very low, very chunky heels.

At the moment I like brogues and pointy flats. My two favourite pairs right now are Clarks Hamble Oak brogues - like this but in silvery grey:

I'm also pushing 60. Shoes are ageless.

There's a really useful blog from someone who only wears flat shoes. enbrogue. I don't think she's very tall either

Another very short one here (4ft10) who cba with heels (knee injury that will never fully heal)
Hush puppies do some really pretty stuff, I have a pair that look like ballerinas but have hidden support inside so much more comfortable, but have really pretty stitching and stuff on them. Rocket dog is another one that do nice flats.

if you want to make your legs look a bit longer/slimmer without heels, avoid ankle straps and high vamps (the top part of the shoe, the closer to your toes the more slimming so ballerinas-quite slimming - loafers-not as much) and truly to match the colouring of the shoe to your legs, eg-black shoes black tights, tan/nude shoes with bare legs, but navy shoes and black tights works too because they're similar iyswim.

I have two pairs of these. They look like ballerinas when on but the small wedge gives support and not that 'flat footed feel of most ballerinas, and they also have arch support.

They are amazingly comfortable for a cheap pair of shoes, I have a red (couple of years ago colour) and black....they also did a beige pair

Lurking as I am a short arse. (5ft2 - are we talking around that range?) i am also about 4 stone overweight, currently a size 16/18 and I have no style (I met 2 MNers at the weekend and they looked so lovely and stylish and cool - I want to be like that)
I like the kind of thing Kirsty Alsopp (sp) wears. Am I deluding myself? I am on a low budget and am fast approaching 40.

no problem, only likely to be a small thread and for me shoes are just the beginning, so like hearing about clothes too.

I went to town today and tried on every pair of sandals I could find and struggled to find any that would fit the injured foot.
I managed in the end with some of those lace up ones, believe it or not they have heels.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to walk far, and they are only little heels, but show my bloody swollen foot off which isn't nice.
Hoping some tights will cover it up a bit and not look so bad.
