Please help me not look a twat at my own wedding?

I'm dead organised me, so currently looking to purchase something to wear for my own wedding in mid-June (yes, three weeks time). I have an unfortunate tendency to look like a massive twat in dresses, so will need to find a trouser-based affair. I have tried on this and it was lovely but I am short - barely five foot short - and worried that culotte style bottoms is going to make me look really silly.

What do you think - am I going to look stumpy and daft, or will it be fine? Do you have any stylish suggestions? Any input VERY gratefully received. I am a size 10-12 as well as being a massive short arse, if it helps.

Ooh dragon chic! I think they're all nice but the Theory one is great. I would love to see a bride wearing something like that.

MardleBum · 23/05/2016 12:10

I don't understand why you think you can't wear a dress but you think you can wear those puffy culottes that look almost identical to a dress. Confused

I think you should wear a dress. If you are very short I doubt that trousers will be very flattering. If you like that culotte and top combination then why not try to find a simple prom type dress that has a similar silhouette?

Wah I am x-posting every which way, thank you so much for more links, I will check them out now.

Here is the sparkly top I tried on - the picture does not do the multi-coloured sparkle justice at all, it was GLORIOUS, but it is about as shapely as a potato sack. Maybe that woud be ok with slim trousers and a tailored jacket?

this is lovely

Do you want to wear white?

isupposeitsverynice · 23/05/2016 12:13

J Crew bridal jumpsuit beats the ASOS bridal jumpsuit offering by a country mile!

OP if you love that top then yes definitely, find something to work with it. Slim trousers in cream would be v elegant.

gingerbreadmanm · 23/05/2016 12:17

Some nice things here.

virgos lounge

Jenni2legs · 23/05/2016 12:19

Why don't you book in with a personal shopper and explain to them you need them to be brutal with what suits you?

isupposeitsverynice · 23/05/2016 12:21

Dragons those are lovely. Not many in stock, sadly, but I'll have a rummage around t'internet. I like the style of the one shoulder one, though I tried a one shoulder affair from ASOS which didn't go terribly well, but it was twenty quid, you get what you pay for, maybe?

That Patti one on Virgos Lounge! I love it! I wasn't particularly set on white, or any colour really, but that's quite wonderful. I wonder if it will look alright on me.

I'm 4ft 7 and look drowned in most maxi dresses so opted instead for a teas length dress, that with some heels and I was sorted.
Are you comfortable in heels?

Is it just dresses or do you feel uncomfortable in skirts too?

isupposeitsverynice · 23/05/2016 12:26

I think I want to try the Patti jumpsuit and the Oasis sparkly top with some elegant trousers. I am SO grateful for the suggestions offered, I really am. Even the dresses, which are gorgeous, but I just don't like wearing. Clark, skirts and dresses both just make me a bit twitchy. Couldn't tell you why. Jenni, what a good idea! I think I'm short on time for something like that now.

It's lovely op but the trousers are quite long - how do you normally get on with altering things ?

dragonsarebest · 23/05/2016 12:28

The Patti jumpsuit is lovely, yes.

I think we get way too caught up in the idea of the "wedding dress", if you're not fixed on white there look to be loads of lovely options.

As you've only got three weeks I'd be seriously tempted to order loads of stuff online to try on at home, and/or buy the top you love and spend a day in actual shops with the top trying on all the trousers you can find that might work with it (and then return the top if there's nothing you love). Have you got shoes sorted?

gingerbreadmanm · 23/05/2016 12:29

I know people are steering you away from cullottes but this is quite bridale

Also weddingy

Pisssssedofff · 23/05/2016 12:31

There's nothing wrong in getting married in your black jeans if that makes you feel good and you'll be comfortable I'd bloody do it I really would

gingerbreadmanm · 23/05/2016 12:32

It's very bridal and worth a try just make sure it goes to the right place for alterations.

Could get a lovely brooch and slide for your hair to dress it up even more.

isupposeitsverynice · 23/05/2016 12:36

Oh Spirited I can't sew to save my life but my good friend and MIL-to-be are both expert seamstresses so one of them can be roped in to help.

Nope, no shoes yet! I have got a couple of pairs of reasonably pretty heels that might do the trick, but I thought I probably needed to settle on an outfit before I did shoes.

If I buy the sparkly top everyone will be blinded by my glittery glory and no-one will even realise I'm wearing jeans, tbh... Grin But no I mean if it's at all possible I would quite like to look sort of elegant and maybe even stylish. It's a tall order for me, but I'm trying!

Here is a suitably celebratory jacket. Lovely proportions.

Floisme · 23/05/2016 12:46

Why do posters keep telling the op to wear a dress when she has clearly said she doesn't want to?

Op, I'm a bit taller than you (5'3). I really like cropped wide-ish leg drop trousers - and they're no more 'fashiony' than jumpsuits! But they're tricky to get right: not mahoosively wide (for obvious reasons) and I like them to end just above my ankle bone but it depends on the shape of your leg. If you can find some (or get some altered) and team with a top like the ones Thurlow linked on the last page, I think you'd look lovely.

Floisme · 23/05/2016 12:47

...or with Gruach's jacket, also lovely.

botemp · 23/05/2016 12:52

Would these pants with matching top? You'll probably need to get the trousers taken in but shouldn't be too much trouble and it feels very bridal but can definitely worn apart again.

RaspberryBeret34 · 23/05/2016 13:00

The sparkly top looks lovely. Can you rope in some help to get it taken in, maybe with a zip added? Or a couple of ribbons sewn in at the sides to tie at the back could work just to bring it in a little at the waist. Pair it with some decent tailored, slim fitting trousers in cream or blush and beautiful shoes?
