Where do you shop for your 10/11 year old girls?

My dd wants to be 'cool', I hate buying cheap clothes as I have a thing for class and quality. She wants to dress like a half naked popstar/hooker in black leather and lace, crop tops and cheap sloganned t-shirts (half of which she has no idea of the meaning) and dresses and tops with bits missing, revealing shoulders and other things!

Until now I have dressed her from Boden/John Lewis/ with the odd more expensive designer brand thrown in from Alex and Alexa or childrens salon (I like the slightly preppy look of No added Sugar and similar).

We need to find a middle ground of fashionable but good quality and tasteful. Everything I suggest is dismissed as 'babyish' but I'm not prepared to let her dress 'tarty' or too old. So where do your similar aged girls like to shop? (She's small for age too so the likes of Superdry/Jack Wills are not suitable).

My little sister has just turned 10 and we went to New Look where she chose some lovely bits from their 915 collection.

River Island, H&M, Debenhams.

Primark H&m... ummmmm mostly primark

She does totally get "value judgements" from me without any issues. She gives them back on occasion

That said She wears slogan tshirts (but they must be understandable by her and age appropriate). She looks awesome in (the right) leather and black lace.

There is a middle ground

Zara, gap, mango online some next & John Lewis. My dd is the same age and I also hate the stuff you mentioned in your op

Also occasionally and surprisingly marks and spencer but that is rare

She might be her own person, but she's at an age where she's influenced by what she sees on instagrm etc. but doesn't really get that those styles are not really acceptable for 10 year olds (or most older girls either in the real world} She's only 10 and still needs my guidance. I fully accept she might not like what I like and am prepared to let her her develop her own style, but it has to be decent. And I do think it's part of my role as a parent to provide boundaries, it's my job to judge!

I'm all for slogans and lace done in the right way, she already has a leather jacket and looks great in it.

My daughter is 12 and announced the other day that she doesn't want anything else from Boden. I agree with others that the teen range in New Look has some lovely things which are not too grown up but still look trendy.

Zara and Mango sound good bets. Will have to order online- what is Mango sizing like- is it small like Zara?

New Look and Primark are just terrible quality to me. We once bought PJs from PM and they shrank to half the size in the wash.

Yes mango & Zara sizing is vey similar, I find they both run slightly small. Gap is good for skinny jeans, shorts that are not too short and t shirts with a design but not a slogan.

New look and Dunes with back up from John Lewis here. It's the bloody belly tops that ALL the other girls have. ( and look terrible in) that I have the stand off with. Dunes have some that don't actually ride all the way up. I share your pain.

Forget quality for the forseeable future. She knows you like it so will choose the opposite.

Bloody hell! Just checked out the River Island website with my dd- she loves it, but I think much of the girl's clothes are way too provocative and 'old', even for 10-12 year olds, but it all comes in age 3! Who on earth buys these or this or even this or even this for a 3 year old? With so many gorgeous clothes around for small children why would you wan to dress them like this?

I agree heels not appropriate for children. However, the a line skirt and top are both fine. Not revealing. The tunic would also be ok with opaque tights, but a bit short with bare legs or skin colour tights.

I buy most of my DCs clothes from Next (eldest DD works there part time so I take advantage of the discount but I've shopped there for years anyway). I think their clothes are 'trendy' but not too grown up. My DD age 10 loves them too

I meant to add she also wears crop tops (sometimes strappy too!)with high waist skinny jeans usually paired with Adidas trainers and a bomber jacket. She also has teeny weeny shorts but she usually wears these with a loose cropped tshirt. She has a beautiful toned ballet dancers body and looks amazing and trendy and age appropriate imo

I'm sure you'd be surprised. But I think the point is that your DD won't care what the quality is like and that it's a lovely pure cotton Tee from Boden and washes well. My 11 year old (who isn't really into clothes or image) does however not want to be the geeky one in the "babyish" outfit. You are right that it's a tricky stage and they need some guidance, but you need to be led a little by her too, perhaps get out of your comfort zone (in the nicest possible sense). I think if you're careful you can get some lovely things from shops you'd never consider.

I think you need to look at items of clothing with other bits iykwim. Eg here's a couple pics of dd in a couple things that would look way too old for her if styled differently
