Is this ok for Ladies Day at Ascot?

I have got this in my wardrobe never worn it, It is a halter neck and quite a nice silver in rl.

If it is suitable what would you put with it please?

It will depend where you are. Some of the enclosures do not allow halter necks.

From memory I think its the Windsor Enclosure (Silver Ring)

Windsor says no formal dress code applies.

I wouldn't but only because that's a (gorgeous) cocktail/evening dress and therefore not suitable for daywear IMO. However, looking at the papers and christenings and weddings in my old parish it would appear that anything goes these days!

I imagine it might ght be difficult to match to a hat though.

Sorry but NO. It is an evening dress. Ascot is quite clear that ladies should wear DAY dresses. Try looking for a classic shift dress and jacket. Or fit and flare with a short jacket. You cannot go wrong. I think bigger florals will look good this year with a plainish jacket and small hat. There is no need to spend a fortune.

Last year Gok really liked a purple jump suit (it was Gucci) and this is permissible as long as it has shoulder straps wider than 1 inch. It was all one colour. Don't wear a fascinator. Wear a pill box if you have long hair or a wider brim if you have short hair. Hat hire shops will help you match something to your outfit. Hostie Hats has great pill box type hats.

Ascot requires quite a bit of walking so wear shoes that you can walk in - all day! There is always a chance of rain at Ascot and it can be a bit chiily so always factor in a jacket. You may need it. Have a great day and be prepared for vast crowds!

You will find lots of pilllbox type hats in the shops now - the Kate factor! Hostie Hats are not cheap, but it will give you an idea of styles. A hat hire shop will help you if you take the outfit in. Sometimes you can get all you want in one store. Have fun shopping.

Jumpsuits can be difficult to pee in, though - again depending on the loo arrangements in your enclosure. I wore a gorgeous one to a 'festival'-style camping wedding in a field last year, and it was a pain in the ass for going to the loo.

That's a lovely dress, OP, but I agree far too envening-y for a race meeting. Having said that, I think there's quite a distinction between what the Ascot dress codes say and what actually gets worn - not so much in terms of people being allowed in who contravene rules on sheer/transparent/strapless or whatever, more huge divergences on what 'smart' or 'formal' might be, which is fuzzier terrain.

I am not over keen on jumpsuits and to be on honest the best part of me is my legs so wouldnt wear trousers [grins]
There are some gorgeous hats on Hostie thanks for that it has really changed my opinion on hats as I never considered a pill box and big hats swamp me as I am quite petite

The main thing to remember about Ascot, and any race meeting really, is that you do not want to look like you are going to an evening event (or you have worn fancy dress!). If an outfit looks like it really belongs at a black tie event, it is not formal day wear. I agree that in the Windsor enclosure, the outfits can look like the lines are blurred due to the rules not being enforced - they are only strictly enforced in the Royal Enclosure. However, it is relatively easy to follow the rules and look smart. Any outfit can then easily be worn to a wedding, another race meeting or even Henley.

If you look at combinations at Hobbs, LK Bennett and any high street shop that specialises in dresses you will find something lovely, wearable and just right.
