Does size 7/40 exist anymore?

I am having problems finding shoes that fit.
I used to buy a 7 or a 40 and they were generally fine.
But now 40 seems to be uncomfortably small, not 'stretch in' small but half a size too wee hurting small. A 41 is flappily miles too big even with inner soles.
Has sizing changed or have my feet gone weird?

I have noticed that 7 = 41 more than it used to. I got some Massimo Dutti what I thought were 7s and they were boatlike. Weird.

M&S 7 always fit me, always have :)

Occasionally need a 7.5 but rarely but I do have slightly wide feet I think?

I always thought 40 was 6.5?

Yes- suddenly people describe 41 as an 8, and it always used to be a 7- and they look at you like you are mad if you say so! I was always a 7/41, but now often need a 40- but not always which makes online shoe shopping hideous!

The European and UK sizes dont match exactly so there is about one size lost ad you go up the sizes. This is often why women's sizes are UK size +33 and the men's +34, so a woman's 7 would be a 40 but a men's a 41. It's bonkers.

I have the same problem at the opposite end of the scale as I'm a size 34.5. I can often get away with a UK 3 (a 35.5) but so many places now call a 36 a three. It's a total PITA. Use one or the other, don't pretend a single shoe is two incompatible sizes!

Placeinthesun · 18/05/2016 19:09

I swear that a 42 used to be an 8 in women's, now I'm always told 41is an 8 and they never for so now I am a size 9 or a "42 eight". I know that only a few brands will reliably be big enough now.... Fly London in a 42, Converse in a 9, Reiker 42 Etc. I may be in denial about being a 9 not just a "large eight".

GlowWine · 18/05/2016 19:09

I've been a 40 all my life (grew up outside uk) and that should translate to 6.5 . Now half-sizes seem to be disappearing in place so I wear mostly 7 now and officially that's 41. Not a big problem as I mostly wear lace-ups. More wiggling space for my toes.
Except for Clarks, where a 6.5 is generally too small.

BestIsWest · 18/05/2016 20:11

41 is not an 8. 42 is an 8.

maggiethemagpie · 18/05/2016 22:07

I'm a 40 - a 'small 7' as I'd say. Impossible to say if shoes are getting smaller or I am getting bigger as my feet size changed during pregnancy/weight gain only just got back to my pre pregnancy weight.

Some shoes fit, some don't, same for everyone really.

Mrs9C · 18/05/2016 22:53

It's infuriating! A 7/41 is my perfect size, but 8/41 is miles too big - and 7/40 in same brand too small....can't figure it out.
