No change even with primer

So, i posted a thread asking where I go wrong s couple of weeks ago. I get pin prick like dotty pores show through my foundation. I wouldn't mind so much but I use top end Chanel!

You guys recommended primer so I have tried but even after a weeks trial no change, seems like a gimmick, where am I going wrong?

Watching with interest as I have the same problem. I cringe when I look in the mirror :(

I've always found primers a waste of money I hate the texture. My advice would be to apply an oil free moisturiser about 10 mins before foundation. The best foundation in the world is Estée Lauder double wear but it's not cheap. If you can afford it get some it's amazing. Then get a loose foundation powder from bare minerals (the foundation powder not the mineral veil). Also get their soft big brush. After you've applied the foundation give it 90 seconds to set (I apply with finger tips no wastage and you can bled properly) and then buff on the powder. Apply a light later, any more and it will cake and the pores will come through.

Every couple of hours apply a touch of powder to blend the foundation back in. This sounds like it will be really heavy coverage but it looks very natural and gives that "airbrushed" look.

I had the same problem but my skin was extremely dry. I'm 3 weeks into nightly cleaning with cream cleanser, Nip & Fab Glycolic pads nightly, a swipe with micellar water then Laura Mercier Rose Oil instead of moisturiser. Mornings are just a quick wipe with the micellar water, moisturiser then L Mericer primer which is water based. My skin is looking so much better. I know primer on its own wouldn't have worked for me.

I've tried doublewear personal but I didn't get on with it at all. It was just wrong for my skin and would not blend so ended up cakey and gave me the stressed vintage look!

Chanel suits me far better but still sits in my pores even with primer. My skin Is dry and red around my nose and chin, normal elsewhere and generally clear complexion.

I get this and have tried many many foundations. The only thinking that doesn’t do this to me is Clarins BB cream. Go to your Clarins counter and ask for a sample. They are usually good about giving these. I use a Clinique concealer, then the BB cream then Clarins powder to set it. It stays on all day and doesn’t sit on my pores giving me that weird speckled look.

What do you apply your foundation with OP?

I have the same thing and recently tried out Benefit's famous Porefessional primer but it didn't help either and broke me out! Smashbox are supposed to have good primers as well but I haven't tried them myself.

Sammy apparently the Benefit primer is silicone based which will dry the skin and exacerbate the problem. I was using it until I switched to Laura Mercer ' s primer a few weeks ago.

Thanks Ponymagic, I will look into the Laura Mercier one. I like her oil free tinted moisturiser so hopefully the primer will be just as great!

My pores are really large and I suffer from terrible dry skin. However last week my foundation looked lots better as I had been exfoliating regularly and using coconut oil nightly.

I used to use my fingers to apply but I saw on a tutorial they used a teardrop type sponge (no idea what it's called) and you press the foundation into your skin like stippeling effect and then go over with another layer normally and this really improved the look of it!

Ponymagic which Laura Mercier primer are you using? They have quite a few and I'm not sure which to choose.

You changed to Laura mercier. I use the radiance one.

Adding to the comments above I'd definitely use a primer. Laura Mercier has quite a few now - depending on what you are wanting they provide different things. I've tried the standard, the hydrating, and the illuminating - I like the hydrating the best but I've only ever used them as they came free in GWPs - I've never actually purchased one. I think there are better primers for my skin although I acknowledge that the LM primer is very popular in general and one of the iconic products she does.
Currently I use a Japanese primer all over my face then the Benefit Porefessional only on my nose area where pores are larger and more noticeable. Other similar products available are the Loreal Studio Secrets primer and Clarins Perfecting Touch Primer.
Also agree with the comment about about ensuring you moisturise well beforehands.

I only have this problem in the summer - ie when my face gets a bit of a tan.

I tried going a couple of shades darker and it solved the problem - because the 'dots' you could see before were just lighter than the rest of my skin.

I love the Smashbox primer. It's a bit of an odd texture, not what you'd expect, but it somehow works. I use the one that's supposed to minimize redness and I don't think it really does that but it does make my makeup go on way better, stay on longer, and not sink into my pores.

The teardrop-shaped applicator someone mentioned above is a Beauty Blender. It's good but absurdly expensive, and a makeup sponge doesn't last forever. There are knockoffs on Amazon for 1/4 the price that work just as well.

I've only used the green one but this one is specifically made to minimize pores:

I would massively recommend using a stippling brush to apply your foundation if you don't already. I found that made a huge difference to covering up my pores.

Thanks Arthur's that's the name a beauty blender sponge. I did get mine in home bargains and it was £1 or less as I wanted to try it out and seems to work so will just keep getting the cheap ones I think.
