Smart work clothes for men, but not at suit?? Smart looking jeans?

My husband is about to start a new job. He has been living in hoodies and jeans in his old job and that was ok. But now he needs to smarten up a bit, but not wear a suit every day. Does anyone have any tips? I think we need to start with some smart jeans and a good leather belt? We have one weekend to sort it. Can anyone recommend one shop where we can get the job done? Or a particular brand of jeans!
It's an IT sales job (no idea if that's relevant!!).

How about somewhere like Gap for staples.

Dark wash or black jeans
Open neck short sleeve shirt

Crew clothing is probably worth a look.

Somewhere like johnlewis would have a bit of everything

Definitely chinos (and if they are dark, replace them when they fade!)
Nice jacket with lapels.
Nice leather belt.
Shirts with collar. I like a robust cotton best...
Thin sweater.
Decent shoes.

Re jeans, I would think prob not - though it depends what market he's in - I wouldn't be delighted to deal corporately with an IT sales person wearing jeans at all, but maybe creative types would. I'd be OK with it in an Apple store provided he knew his stuff (which I'm assuming he does)!
Y to John Lewis and Gap. I would say don't go mad initially.

Has he sussed out what other people in the office/workplace wear?

Some places smart jeans would be fine in my office environment people don't usually wear suits so much anymore but they often still wear suit type trousers with a fitted shirt, sometimes with a tie, sometimes not.

Chinos, nice shirt - something boden like. Nice shoes and plain jumper.

Winters is great because you can wear lovely lovely moleskins (does the Vic Reeves thigh rub).

I would not go for jeans, until he's been there a while and established that is OK. If there's any sort of a dress code, it's unlikely to include jeans.

Before he starts, just get a couple of plain, open necked shirts he can wear with a pair of black trousers, and then make a judgement once he's seen what others do.

Plain black fitted trousers is definitely the "go to" outfit in my workplace for guys, usually teamed with a nice shirt and sometimes a tie.

Best to see what others wear (or more importantly don't wear) before spending loads. DH went from a suit and tie environment to another job where the only dress code appears to be "no t-shirts and no trainers". He wears smart jeans and checked shirts most of the time.
