Long Sleeves in the Summer

Just looking for a bit of advice really...I have raised noticeable self harm scars from elbow to wrist on my arms. It was a long time ago and I've made my peace with it - I'm very happy to wear short sleeves most of the time and ignore any funny looks, but I really struggle at work. I'm actually dreading the weather getting warm as I never know what to wear and I end up sweating in cardigans and long sleeve t-shirts all through summer. I'd love to hear from anyone who has some ideas or anyone in a similar position?

How about floaty blouses or tops like this one?

What budget? I love long-sleeve and 3/4 sleeve blouses cotton blouses in summer. Silk or light cotton shouldn't be too hot for UK weather.

Thanks Astrantia, I really like the white one! What would you wear that with? In winter I live in dresses and tights and cardigans so I really struggle with summer dressing in general Confused budget is flexible, I'd pay 30-60 for a top if it was really nice and natural fibres

I have very sun sensitive skin on my arms, so wear a lot of floaty, gauzy tops, a bit like the one linked. I've had some nice ones from M&S, in the past, but not seen anything to match, this year - though if white suits you, you'll have a lot more choice. Also have some nice ones from Fatface.

If you're patient with ironing, linen can be nice when the weather is warm but you need to cover up.

I have one of these (butterfly popover if the link doesn't work) in a different fabric - lively and light to wear and the sleeves roll down to cuff length.

This is rather pretty

Oh those are lovely as well, I'll pop into a Fatface and have a proper look - thanks so much! Again, what do you wear your with?

I just wear mine with jeans, but you probably need something smarter for work!

I have large surgical scars on one arm, and due to a nerve issue it is also very sun sensitive so I often need to cover up. I have a number of these things called Wingz which are just sleeves, and so you can add them under a sleeveless or short sleeved top/dress and they are very light so don't really make you hot. The lace ones cover up the scars really well, and I get loads of compliments on them.
Covering up the other way, I have some wrist gauntlet things which are the thickness of opaque tights and sold on ebay for women who cover for modesty reasons, and they are long enough to wear with 3/4 length sleeves - they come in loads of colours

catweather · 11/05/2016 21:29

I can't believe I've never seen Wingz before, those are incredible! I'm going to buy one and see how it goes - I have loads of nice short sleeved/sleeveless dresses and I'd love to be able to wear them without putting a shabby old cardigan over the top.

You lot are incredible, thanks so much for all your help!

Ditto Catweather! I have the same issue as you and dread really hot weather. How did I not know about Wingz?! This is brilliant.

CMOTDibbler · 11/05/2016 21:44

The nice thing about them too is that they don't interfere with the neck line or back of what you are wearing so it looks less covered up somehow

reup · 11/05/2016 21:48

Thanks so much for sharing about wingz. I think my life is going to change so much now!

catweather · 11/05/2016 21:58

I've tried wearing long sleeved tops under sleeveless dresses but the neckline is always wrong and they always go lumpy at the waist where the top rolls up...this is a game changer
