toe-covering sandals

Has anyone seen any nice ones? Poor Dd1 18 has an awful fungal toenail infection so can't show her nails but wants to wear sandals with all her summer dresses and shorts. Would be v grateful if anyone has seen any cute ones, or any alternative summer footwear that isn't sandals that would complement summer clothes. Reasonably priced/cheap pls as I have to pay £600 for laser treatment for her manky nails

I haven't tried these myself but seen lots of people wearing them on Instagram and thought you might like to check them out. Although they just about cover toes, there is a small gap so would keep things ventilated! Fungal infections love a bit of dark and warmth so might help with eradicating it.

I'm not sure if you have booked the treatment yet, but my feet and nails were terrible with fungus and also athletes foot.
It led to cellulitis in the end and I am diabetic.

I tried Tea tree oil for a week and it all went. The bottle cost a few pound not the cheap ones usually found in shops. It needs to be 100% not blended.
My feet are lovely now, nails nearly perfect again and no more athletes foot, even in this weather.

I know it's not what you asked but thought I'd share.
HCP won't recommend this as it makes no money for them from the drugs companies.

Health professionals don't recommend tea tree oil because the evidence isn't robust.

Can she not take the tablets they can prescribe for this? My mum had 4 infected nails and she took the tablets for months, cleared it up completely, she had suffered for years.
She still wore flip flops / sandals with nail varnish though!

My DH spent the money on laser treatment for fungal nails, and we cannot see any improvement in the regrowth, although he's been assured the infection is cured.

Try pikolinos, they have quite a few closed toes, or at least can't see through grid.

I'm going to show her all the links and treat her to a pair of whichever she likes.

cakeninja she's taken terbamafine(sp?) for 5 months with no improvement at all. Obvs after all the varnish-type treatments, vicks etc didn't work.

Eight of her toenails are literally black, I feel so sorry for her and she's been like this a long time. It gets her down cos she feels dirty.

newlife it sounds like you had a terrible time! Yes I worry about it turning into something really nasty, hence why I want to do whatever it takes to get rid. I don't think we've tried neat teatree oil, so I'll order some and give it a go before I shell out, thanks. Luckily there's no problem at all with the skin on her feet, just her nails.

cresset I would be seriously pissed off if I was your DH! It's a seriously expensive treatment (for me, anyway). I would be absolutely gutted if it didn't work.

I'm shocked that the nhs don't offer it really, cos what do they do when nothing else works? Surely they don't just leave people in a state? God knows.

We're not allowed our toes out at work , so I bought these last year and loved them so much I have bought another pair for this summer too. They come in black, tan or off-white.

Oh your poor dd, that sounds severe. My DM took the tablets for over a year before they had finally grown out and she was infection free, but I'm sure by 5 months or so there would have been some sign of improvement.
I think the nhs class it as cosmetic but I know DM found things like anyone accidentally treading on her toe excruciatingly painful, which seems to go beyond just cosmetic.

Hope the laser treatment goes well for her and that she finds some sandals in the meantime Flowers

Can't fead this properly as I hAve to go to sleep, but I can vonform the first ones linked to (Castells?) are fab. I got two pairs in the sales last summer and they were so comfortable and versatile - shorts, skirts, jeans, etc. I need to-covering sandals as I have a toegap that people openly stare at (ironically it's called sandal toe!), and these just show the tip of the big toe.
I also had some delicate strappy ones which covered the tods, from Cara (also where the others came from). Will have a look tomorrow.

Those Topshop ones are lovely for a young girl, especially if she gets a tan. The colour would be dreadful on purple-toned legs like mine.

The castells are a variant of the menorcan sandled which you can get cheaper.

Some of the links shared are a bit old for an 18 year old in my opinion, especially the clarks!!
I am in my twenties and don't like my toes, but have had a few pairs of closed toe sandals both from ASOS and topshop. I have a tan pair not dissimilar to the ones Jimmy posted and a heavier looking pair of 'fisherman sandals' which tend to cover more of my feet so might be better for your DD.

After a quick search I found these but I'm sure cheaper, similar options exist if you search the right things.

I have also had a classic T-bar shoe as a summer staple for years. Dr. Marten do one called Polley, which although expensive will endure and comes in new summery colours including a lovely pastely pink!!
