Ok so I've tried and failed more than once to get decent loose waves with my ghd's. I need to buy a curler and need your help. My hair is fine but I've got a lot of it. It's a few inches below my shoulders. I'm looking for loose waves / beach waves rather than corkscrew curls and I don't want to take ages doing my hair. What should I buy? TIA.

This is really good!

I'd also like to know. I currently use heated rollers which have the advantage of me being able to stick them in and then get on with makeup etc so they don't take time.
I travel a lot though so need something more portable.

I'd like to know too! I have a BaByliss wand and a Curl Secret. The former I can get on with and the latter is only good for piper curls. Apparently straighteners do the best waves but I can't get the hang of it!

I love the GHD wave wand. It's £79 on Very at the minute (was £120 when I bought mine) and it makes those lovely beachy waves that normal curlers can't.

I don't rate the Curl Secret that much given the price. Every now and then I'll dig it out and have another try, never seems very good considering the cost.

I have this curling wand

I'm sure it was a fair bit cheaper when I got it though. I saw it recommended on a YouTube video to create beachwaves. I think this is the video so you know how to use it. m.youtube.com/watch?v=LPosRXP72SE

I think it works great and I have fine hair that doesn't hold curls well. I spray heat protector and a salt spray (got2be) on it beforehand as recommended by my hairdresser then lots of hairspray afterwards. It does hold ok, drops but then you get that looser beach wave effect. If you look up Amanda Holden on YouTube, she was doing some videos of how she had her hair done wavy for the BGT auditions which I found helpful too.

Hmmm, I think the problem is that my hair holds a curl all too well and my wand just gives ringlets!

fandabbydozier · 08/05/2016 17:32

I'm like you sorrel, hair curls very well and tends to stay well but I don't want to end up with ringlets!!

I have similar hair to yours, fine but lots of it. I have a Cloud 9 wand, best one (and there have been many) I've ever owned.
