Dh's company are taking staff and spouses away for night in a fancy schmancy hotel. I'm trying to figure out what to wear for the dinner and drinks bit. I love my neon spot midi skirt but I don't know what top.

I'm about a size 10 but large of bap with a jelly belly. But I'm short so I need something fitted rather than floaty. I have short dark hair and suitors colours except black and white. Budget isn't huge, maybe £50? All suggestions would be gratefully received.

gorgeous skirt
i love the fact the model is wearing red so maybe a red top
i just bought this and it;s gorgeous but you'd have to try them together to ensure it's not overkill

Oh goodness, that's beautiful!
What colour were you thinking?

maybe

KanyesVest · 06/05/2016 21:37

I like that Reiss top, the cream might work if the lace is ok with the print. I wouldn't in a million years have thought of the gold one. The colour is fantastic, but would I not end up with a crippling wedgie for the night 80s flashback?

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 06/05/2016 21:46

The reiss top is indeed lovely, floatier than I thought you wanted but gorgeous. It looks slippy though, as does the skirt. and, erm, maybe my considerable baps are just unusually unruly but they'd be untucking the whole thing constantly, which drives me potty.

Oly5 · 06/05/2016 21:49

that gold top is too flashdance for me.
I order a lot of Reiss stuff via John lewis as they are easier for me to return.
I love their tops - great for nights out and classic, so wear them for years

Oly5 · 06/05/2016 21:51

ps i think the lace and spots could work well

MrsLettuce · 06/05/2016 21:54

Oh. The first reiss top. I meant the second. IMHO lace would be well odd with the skirt.

I'll get me coat

KanyesVest · 06/05/2016 21:58

I'd definitely have to try both tops with the skirt. The topshop one is very different for me, which might be a good thing. Oly, I presume the lace Reiss top needs a strapless bra?

OP posts:
KanyesVest · 06/05/2016 22:02

Diddly, that shirt is lovely but would swamp me with the big skirt too.

OP posts:
Oly5 · 06/05/2016 22:09

i wear my black one with a normal bra as the lace is quite detailed but now you mention it a strapless would prob work better.
have a good look at their site, they have others that might work.
they are pricey but i do find you wear them for years. everything hangs off their models so not all these tops will be floaty

That skirt is gorgeous! I am large up top too, and I like wearing a patterned skirt with a very plain dark scoop neck T-shirt - pick one of the colours in the skirt. this kind of thing

wobblywonderwoman · 06/05/2016 22:23

I don't think you could go wrong with a fitted black strapless top. gorgeous skirt! have a great time

KanyesVest · 06/05/2016 22:42

Daft, I tend to wear a top like that for day to day, so I'd like something a bit dressier if I can find it. Do you mean something bustier style, wobbly?

Just found this Coast top. Only saw it online, so not sure if it'd be too much? It's very nice though..

OP posts:
Oly5 · 06/05/2016 23:16

I love the coast tip but you'd ha r to try on together.
How fancy is the hotel? For that kind of thing the wives do tend to dress up.
What type of company is it?

Pinkcadillac · 07/05/2016 09:17

I think blush is a great colour for your skirt. Which is lovely, btw. What about this, tucked in? too plain?

KanyesVest · 07/05/2016 16:00

I like the colour, but would feel unironed in that top! Think I'll have to try to get a proper shopping day in, while wearing the skirt.

TJH1 · 07/05/2016 18:38

Hi KanyesVest, what size skirt did you get? What is the fit like? Thank you

KanyesVest · 07/05/2016 22:03

TJH, I got an xl and am about a 12. It's slightly too big for me, but l would be on the snug side.

TJH1 · 08/05/2016 06:24

Thanks for info. Think I will give it a go.

Nettletheelf · 08/05/2016 07:03

I realise that this ASOS one is out of stock, but something like this:

www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Ponte-Top-with-V-Neck-and-Pleated-Sleeves/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2629501

I'd be picking out the bright red, bright blue or bright green in the skirt and a deep v is good for the more 'well blessed' in the chest region (not me, sadly).

KanyesVest · 08/05/2016 17:42

I spotted this Hobbs top earlier. Had Ds with me, so no hope of getting to try it so I'll go back during the week. Its insanely expensive but silk and beautiful....
