Wedding guest dress for 5ft2

My husband is best man in a few weeks and I'm struggling to find a dress for me. I'm 5ft 2, size 12, early thirties and I have a Baby and a toddler. Colouring wise I am a brunette with fairly fair skin and my hair is coloured and very short. I am so out of touch I have no idea where to start.

I am a similar height and size and colouring to you. For weddings, my go to shop is Phase Eight for their stretchy sleeveless dresses and a shawl collar cardi. They come up long, but they're easy to have shortened as the proportions of the dress mean that all that needs to happen is for four inches to be lopped off the bottom. They're not cutting edge in terms of fashion, but easy to wear and fit right inside the wedding guest look.

Coast have a petite section on their website.

twobambinos · 04/05/2016 16:52

I'm same height as you and similar age, I would look at coast, asos and oasis.
I have a wedding in a few weeks have one of the coast capped sleeve sequin tops and a high waisted skirt from asos. Would you try midi skirt? Closet have a nice selection of those.

taybert · 04/05/2016 16:55

Chi chi have some nice midi length dresses and they do petite.

I am the same height. I like asos petite. I recently bought their "wiggle dress" which was reasonably priced & smart. Lots of similar stuff there too.

brassbrass · 04/05/2016 17:03

I'm also petite and no problem in shops like Warehouse, Oasis, Asos. Their standard ranges fit me fine.

Mini dresses come lower on the leg which I don't mind at all and knee length dresses seem to fit me to the knee. How odd is that??! I am a freak obviously. I am in proportion I don't have a long torso.

Trouble I have these days is I don't actually like anything out there at the moment. There is far too much cheap crappy fabric around (despise chiffon) and really god awful prints, granny florals, yukky colours...bleurgh

And lace. Lace everywhere!!

Whataboutwhathuh · 05/05/2016 09:58

My problem is I have no idea what suits me or what styles to go for at my size and shape. I always feel I get it wrong. I've ordered a phase eight dress but it's going to take three weeks. And yy to all the bloody lace and fabric abominations

what shape are you?

Whataboutwhathuh · 05/05/2016 14:32

Small chested, saggy mum tum but legs are all right. Size 12 but short.

something with a round neck - more flattering for smaller busts. V necks, scoop necks just accentuate the smallness IMO.

knee length or slightly higher to show off your legs

maybe some spanx type shapewear to give you a smoother silhouette around the tummy

a shift dress that's a bit tailored?

Definitely shape wear to be deployed. My post c section tummy is not pretty. I'm wondering if I could pair it with bright red accessories or something.

OP posts:
brassbrass · 05/05/2016 15:33

yes it's great and bright red accs will certainly make it pop

brassbrass · 05/05/2016 15:34
