Dressing for a wedding.... in a field....

I posted a while ago asking for opinions on a maxi dress; most people agreed that it would swamp me. I'm 5'2 / 3" ish, dress size 6 - 8.

The wedding is now only days away and I still haven't sorted anything to wear!

My only criteria is to be warm. I am that person who is still wearing jumpers while everyone else is in t-shirts... always cold. I thought a maxi dress would work well as I could layer under it and still look pretty.

I've bought a lovely fitted jacket, but just can't find anything to match. The idea was I'd wear it with skinny jeans and boots or brogues depending on weather but the wedding which was non-conventional / relaxed when it was first planned is becoming more formal and jeans are an absolute no-no. I can't find any non-jeans trousers that fit or match the colour. It is similar to this but with a tweedy style check.

Any ideas would be really, really helpful. I need a fairy Godmother and a magic wand!

God I would go with trousers and THERMALS including thermal long sleeved tshirt and leggings, with two pairs of thin socks.

Annandale - you've got the idea!

And cider. Lots and lots of cider so pissed I won't feel the cold

Brother's wedding was in a barn in August and we brought lots of blankets in the car to put over our laps as the evening drew in. They helped.

Blankets are a very good idea.

My children will freeze in their dresses...

I ordered two dresses. Neither are warm and neither match the jacket 😂

I think the blue one is too formal / prom for a field wedding - this is the Little Mistress dress I linked above.

I'm still undecided Confused Blush

The one on the right is good! It looks great on you. Nice and summery but with plenty of scope for thermals under too.

The only problem with a maxi in a field is the potential for the dreaded Wet Hem after the dew settles in the evening or (obviously) if it's been raining / rains. But, if it's synthetic it might not be massively absorbent.

Is the wedding this weekend? I bet you're roasting aren't you?! Grin

No it's at the end of the month. Summer will be over by then haha!!

MrsLettuce I will be taking wellies. And also taking full advantage of the kegs of cider so hopefully any wet hems will go unnoticed 😎

So, will be the blue or the white?

Wellies are always a good plan! Wasn't thinking so much about the look of wet hem as the all too familiar heath and safety factors - wellies, wet hem, alcohol and uneven ground is quite a major tripping risk, IME. Just remember to hold your dress up like a damsel when you walk on the grass Wink

MrsLettuce I think you must've been somewhere with me around before... Maybe pre-children though, I haven't fallen over drunk for many years! That might change

At the moment the long sleeved dress is the winner. The more I look at the blue, the more I see a prom dress.
