Plus size clothes on the High Street - 90% crap?

I'm size 22 and 5 foot 7. I know I need to lose weight but while I'm this size I would love a few decent items of workwear to boost my confidence again.
I've just been to a fairly huge shopping centre and returned with nothing. Not one thing. I can't get over how shit the vast majority of plus size clothes were:

Sleeveless - not ok for work and I certainly don't fancy flashing my upper arms/shoulders at the moment!

Shapeless: no structure or shape so they literally just hang. If you're cursed with stupidly large boobs like me, it just looks make you look like a vast billowing tent!

Horrible loud jungle patterns: Why would I want to draw more attention to myself? HELLO EVERYONE, LOOK AT BIG FAT ME! Angry

I would be eternally grateful if anyone could point me towards some flattering plus size work clothes on the high street - you know, wrap tops, v necks, flattering layers. I'm in such a bad mood having wasted my bank holiday morning! Sad

Who are all these larger sized women who like polyester, loud prints, no sleeves, are happy to display camel's toe in over-short tops, and choose tent-like dresses with no definition??

polyhymnia · 04/05/2016 17:47

Whoever they are, they're very well catered for. Oh and they are quit happy to display plenty of keg above the knee too.

moocowmrs · 04/05/2016 17:58

Sainsburys and Next both do 22, sainsburys has started to do click and collect on their clothes. I am the same size 20/22 and get most of my clothes from here, but gave stared making tops and skirts do they actually fit !

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/05/2016 21:35

Poly - I work with one of them. I do wonder though, if it is due to lack of choiceon the high street, and not what they would actually choose to wear. I would quite like to go into shops and try stuff on, rather than have to get everything by mail order. John Lewis have a good selection of plus sized clothes online but nothing in the shop apart from the dreaded Chesca. Debenhams is better.

polyhymnia · 05/05/2016 10:30

Yes maybe. Would be great if there was a choice on the high street. But I'm just not prepared to compromise and will do whatever it takes - including shopping by mail - to get the sort of clothes I want and feel happy in. Talking of which, as well as Boden, which is my mainstay, I also have some nice things from Poetry and Wrap, both of which go up to 22.

tonitaka27 · 05/05/2016 11:58

I would definitely recommend ASOS. They do best plus size clothing.

polyhymnia · 05/05/2016 14:43

Most Asos dresses are way too short for me though.

MiddleClassProblem · 05/05/2016 14:58

I find it hard to search through Asia unless I'm looking for something specific because so many items come up and it takes a while to something I like

MiddleClassProblem · 05/05/2016 18:55

asos not Asia!

feelingmiffed · 05/05/2016 19:18

I quite like some of the stuff in the new look plus size range. It was called inspire but is now curves I think?!

MiddleClassProblem · 06/05/2016 00:20

New look also do cheap jeans that cover your bum and not the "half way up and have your hip bones out of you were a size 6" look going on

SecretNutellaFix · 06/05/2016 00:21

Yep, name changed to Curves.

Bigbiscuits · 06/05/2016 06:29

Just discovers that Gap online go up to a 24 (supposedly - I think it more like a Boden 20).
But a great find for black work trousers.

Thought I'd revive this thread to ask if anyone has seen any nice summer clothes?

I've bought this dress from Curvissa and really like it.

travailtotravel · 13/05/2016 20:22

I am looking to Coleslaw. I had hoped to be a size smaller this year but sadly not so I have some stuff but not enough for work smarts etc.

ColeslawSandwich · 13/05/2016 23:10

travail this dress is very flattering for work.

travailtotravel · 15/05/2016 17:14

Coleslaw thanks - that's also totally my colour too ...
