If you've had a blepharoplasty pop in here please!

I am going to have a much wanted bilateral blepharoplasty for my sagging upper eyes and hereditary lower eye bags. I look so tired and puffed up all the time and I'm 43 so if I don't do it now, I never will.
I live in the North of England so am looking for a brilliant occuloplastic (sp) surgeon to do my op. I can't seem to find a good cosmetic surgery forum that is in the UK.
If you've had this op can you tell me:
a) how it was
b) if you're pleased with the outcome
c) any tips?
d) who your surgeon was (if you are Leeds/Manchester/Sheffield way)

Thank you for any replies. I'm so excited and just want to chat with people about it so I don't do DH head in after finally getting him to agree that surgery is the only way for me.

I used to work with an ophthalmologist in an NHS setting who performed these, so what I would say is:
research and get personal recommendations as much as possible, maybe ask at your local hospital if there ophthamologists do private work? You may be more likely to find someone who has been treated by them?
Be aware it should be done under local anaesthetic to get the best ,symmetrical look. you need to open and close your eyes throughout the op so they match up. I think some surgeons do them under GA though.
You can get some bruising that can take a couple of weeks to go.
Follow the post op care meticulously, you really don't want any infections!
Don't drive home afterwards.....

I'm ok with having it done under local, I know certain parts will creep me out but it will be worth it to me not to look so knackered. It's got me down since I was 30.
How long would it be before I can do things around the house or go to work? Looking online it says 2 weeks but I think they often overestimate these things (although I will be taking it easy obviously!!)
I had my boobs done 7 years ago and there used to be a fantastic UK forum I used to go on but that seems to be a graveyard now so it's not easy to find anyone to chat to about it.

My husband had this done, upper eye lids only. We live overseas.

He was in a bit of pain when I picked him up in the afternoon, went to bed with some painkillers, was at work the next day! Great results and you cannot see the scar at all.

Thanks Badger it's good to hear about positive stories. Is he really pleased with the results?
I read that the upper is a simpler op (although with removal of skin etc you wouldn't think so) and I had considered doing the upper first and then having lowers done on a later date but tbh I think if I'm going to do it, I'd better do both in one go.
Just trying to work out whether it's best to get it booked for half term holidays when I can farm the kids out to their grandparents and rest up.
I have to find a surgeon first that I feel is right for me.
I had my boobs done in Prague and the clinic was immaculate and I'm so happy with the results. At the time it was a toss up between eyes or boobs and I went for boobs.

My husband is delighted. Not least because we have private medical and the surgeon who lasered his eyes said that technically his saggy eyelids could impede his job (photography). So he had it all done privately. Gratis.

He's not vain at all but loves his eyelids and comments on all celebs now. Apparently Julie Walters has had a very good job!

Watching as I'd love this done in the next few years.

I've just booked a consultation! I've got hereditary saggy eyebags and it's bothered me for years. I almost feel it's affecting my vision now and it makes me look so tired and cross when actually I feel better than I did 20 years ago in every respect. I'm just going to go and find out a bit more about it. As I'm not sure if it's actually eyelids, or brows that need sorting (or both).

I've just had mine done a week ago with Gary Ross ar the Alexandra hospital in Cheadle near Manchester. I had my upper eyelids done.
Most of the bruising and swelling has gone and I have the stitches out tomorrow. I've taken it easy all week, but have felt fine. So glad I had it done.
If you want a plastic surgeon specifically for eyes, I've heard Brian Leatherbarrow in Manchester is also excellent.
