Best permanent hair dye

I'm thinking of dying my hair again and was wondering what others opinions were of different brands etc. The last two times I've used Vidal Sassoon Salonist (which faded v quickly) and Feria. It's been about six months since I last dyed it and I keep it in pretty good condition, also I use sulphate-free and silicone-free shampoos and conditioners so I don't think I'm exacerbating the fading any. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you are wanting gorgeous shine without the damage, try henna. I always thought it was a bit scary. However lush do henna. I suppose it depends upon what colour you have and want as henna dyes mostly variants of red although you can get a good mid brown with with subtle undertones of red. There is a henna thread on here :) Its not everyones thing, but thought I would mention it in case you were interested.
