Do you think wearing eyeshadow as part of everyday makeup is a bit much?

One of my birthday presents was a large eyeshadow palette type thing. I don't want to put it on the shelf to languish into oblivion but at the same time I don't tend to go out in the evening regularly to bars and restaurants so the only option of trying them out is wearing different colours daily to work. I work in a casual setting so considering some people have bright purple hair, my eyeshadow isn't likely to cause a scene. On the flip side I could just give the palette to my nieces (8 & 13yrs) who'd have a blast of a time experimenting.

What do you reckon? If it helps, I'm quite good at applying eye-make-up anyway so I know I wouldn't look like a clown but I would need to force myself to use colours that I've not tried before.

I wear eyeshadow everyday. Mostly neutral pinks and golds, but usually with a touch of something very bright as a liner or at the corners. I wear glasses though which tones it down.

HollinHurst84 I recognise you from Mrs G & The G on Facebook! Lovely eye makeup!

hollinhurst84 · 01/05/2016 20:30

I wear eyeshadow every day! Ah, fab group Wink

AnyFucker · 01/05/2016 20:43

The confusion is to why you needed to ask the question.

It's a personal choice as to whether you use eye shadow or not....surely ?

Vaara · 01/05/2016 21:39

Urgh, passive aggressive much?

Style and Beauty exists in its entirety to garner other people's opinions on..... style and beauty! Weird that!

Maybe hang round other boards if S&B isn't your thing...

I wear a fair few colours of eyeshadow, though mostly pinks, nudes/browns and grey/lilac for everyday & work. That palette would challenge me & I am clearly braver than you. How about using the neutral shades you can get on with & try a few of the bolder shades?

idontlikealdi · 01/05/2016 21:56

I wear it every day. Veiny eyelids need it!

spankhurst · 01/05/2016 22:20

I don't wear it except big nights out but I have deep set eyes and it doesn't do much for me. Mascara and lippie are my essentials. It's only make up though, have a play and see if you like any of the colours.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 01/05/2016 22:28

You can apply a line of bright colour just above your upper lash line for a more subtle look.

I would experiment with it and if you like it, wear it.

HalfStar · 01/05/2016 22:34

Interesting to hear how many of you wear it every day. I feel it's too much on me for daytime, even the subtle shades, so I never wear it during the day. If I had a lovely palette I might be tempted to play with it though! But op it sounds like you should give this one to your nieces.

My everyday look is a bit of foundation/concealer and blusher.

charliethebear · 01/05/2016 22:36

I think you could wear most of those colours everyday if you are good at eye shadow, definitely on the bottom bit and especially to a more relaxed work setting. Some of the brighter colours would be good to experiment with as pps have said as a liner

CointreauVersial · 01/05/2016 22:46

OP, I wouldn't go near a rainbow palette like the one in your picture; that's definitely one for the teens. I do wear eyeshadow most days, but I stick to neutrals.

Urrban Decay Naked palettes are excellent - fab quality and incredibly wearable.

Lweji · 01/05/2016 22:53

Who on earth gave you that palette if you mostly wear neutral tones?

Anyway, unless you're really keen on getting the most out of it, it would go for the young ones.

CarbonEmittingPenguin · 01/05/2016 23:19

AnyFucker Why don't you campaign to get this whole site shut down as asking questions and others' opinions is clearly absurd and silly. Did I force you to comment? Sorry, I should have read your guidelines before posting. Please do forgive me!

Sorry - misread but it still applies - if some people have bright purple hair then clearly wearing colourful makeup is not going to be "too much" for the situation.

Startingover2016 · 02/05/2016 09:12

I wear eyeshadow every single day. I have piggy eyes so I always make them up. I don't like foundation or blush or lipstick but will always look passable with my eyes strong.

Startingover2016 · 02/05/2016 09:13

So no it's not too much. I would experiment with all those colours. You could wear a different one every day.

Abecedario · 02/05/2016 09:20

I wear it most days, but usually neutrals, tan/taupe type colours with a bit of gold.

I'd wear more colours but I don't really know how to apply them and am rubbish with make up generally. If you're ok at it then why not try a few? If after a few days experimenting you're not loving it or don't think it's something you'll keep up then pass on to your nieces.

DerelictMyBalls · 02/05/2016 09:30

I wear eyeshadow most days but, if I had been given the pallette you have shown, I would give it away. I wear neutrals, not bright colours, and would not make use of half the colours there. The brightest I would go would be a shimmery purple liner for a big night out.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 02/05/2016 09:34

I have a palette like that which I bought in the Boots post-Xmas sale. It was a waste of money -- I have no idea how to wear the brighter colours. Sometimes I add a tiny swipe of a bright blue or green under my eyeliner, but that's about it.

RomComPhooey · 02/05/2016 13:12

Can anyone recommend a good eye make-up tutorial online? I like it when people do swooshy eyeliner with one of those brush pens, but I've never mastered it. Always looks like I asked a 3 year old to apply mine. I could also do with some guidance on smoky eyes.

MarthaCliffYouCunt · 02/05/2016 13:15

Confused what an odd question. Wear whatever eyeshadows you want at any time of day. Theyre your eyes.

MarthaCliffYouCunt · 02/05/2016 13:18

For anyone who is curious or likes their make up there is a FB group called mrsgloss and the goss (not my group, i'm just a member) and they have some fantastic videos posted by members. A really supportive group with so much advice and information. You will definitely find eyeshadow tips there for all sorts of styles and tastes.

bigkidsdidit · 02/05/2016 13:27

It's too much for me - eyeshadow and lipstick make me feel really 'done' so I don't wear them to work. I wear foundation, blusher, mascara, lip balm.

BubsAndMoo · 02/05/2016 13:27

I wear eyeshadow most days, but a neutral palette of matte beige/taupe/light browns with subtle brown eyeliner & mascara - I work in a clinical environment. Off duty I will wear colours for daytime looks though. Recently got the Urban Decay Spectrum and Vice Reloaded XX palettes on a US trip and loving the pinks, purples, blues, greens - blended ombré-style they don't look 'too much', IMO.

RomCom just type 'eyeliner tutorial' into YouTube and see what takes your fancy - and practice practice practice. Put it on for a night in front of the telly just for the practice.
