What jacket/cardigan over a summer dress?

I struggle with this every year! I live in Scotland so it's often not quite warm enough to wear just a dress. Or its warm enough at lunchtime but cold by evening.

At the moment it's pouring rain so don't even know why I'm thinking about this.

Denim over a floaty dress looks lovely.

I feel your pain, we've had snow...

According to the Guardian padded jackets are in, buy one now and wear it till next winter. Sounds good to me. I am still wearing my padded parka, I tell myself I am in vogue.

padded jackets - like barbour?

OiWithThePoodlesAlready · 01/05/2016 15:17

I like the denim jacket look on other people I'm just not very sure it's me. Maybe I need to try one on to see.

I've been looking for a nice denim jacket - any recommendations?

BoogieTime · 01/05/2016 15:23

Cropped denim jacket

OiWithThePoodlesAlready · 01/05/2016 15:24

I can't do cropped. I have a long body and short legs so anything cropped makes me look very odd Grin

I've a denim jacket, a faux leather jacket, a loose fitted cardigan and a see through rain mac. Depending on the weather (often terrible even in summer) and what I'm wearing, these are my staples through out Spring/summer months. TBH the transparency of the rain mac isn't necessarily but it's ideal when it's raining, but I'm still wanting to show off how fabulous I'm looking in my summer outfit Wink

padded jacket

NancyJoan · 02/05/2016 09:28

I've one a bit like this, is useful over summery tops and dresses. www.gap.co.uk/browse/product.do?cid=68138&vid=1&pid=000177698000

What about a jersey blazer? The are everywhere and are generally comfy to wear and easy to look after. For smarter wear I've just bought the cream frayed cropped jacket form Hush which is more of a heavy weight cardi than a jacket (it's unlined and can be machine washed )

Gillybobs · 02/05/2016 09:39

Meant to add, although it's described as cropped I'm 5' 7" and it's not cropped on me

Would depend entirely on the type of dress I think, a long line cardi on a cute short dress of a similar length would be nice but horrendous on a maxi, a short cardi that finishes at the hip on a skater style dress, a sort of boxy Chanel jacket style cardi/jacket or a jersey blazer as Gillybobs suggested look good most dresses just don't wear a bolero

Pintrest is full of ideas.
