Err, how did that happen with no one noticing!
It's because we're all on the dark and stormy, sloe gin and prosecco innit.

Sorry for the not v inspired title but I panicked.

Well, the local 'community matron' is coming round this week to assess their needs, so I hope mum is honest about the extent of problems.

And he's deaf too. Has a hearing aid but refuses to wear it. Then gets all arsey and 'I can't hear a word that people are saying'. Well put your BLOODY HEARING AID IN then.

He can't read, because of cataract, so mum bought him some spoken word books on CD. But he can't see how to operate the CD player, because of cataract. He can't hear the telly, even when it's turned up to 'ear splitting'. He's in a world of his own. Then will occasionally come over all lucid, and say 'I'm just an annoying old man, who's a burden to everyone'. Ghastly.

Also, mum is going to pay for carers to come in a sort her/them out after her knee op. Sis and I have persuaded her that she should keep them on even when 'better', for say an hour each day, to come in and see what's up. This shall be the new normal.

hattymattie · 02/05/2016 18:53

Stropps - so glad DD is pulling though.

Rose - I know exactly how you feel re DD same problem here. DD2 feels "dumb" in relation to those around here. I'm just crossing my fingers she gets the grades for York.

Well - Crepeys - I have survived an afternoon teaching the first year Primary (that would be second year in England). They were quite sweet on the whole - and although there were things I could have done better I think it went well. I should not however have asked them to mime the verb slithering - they were off in all directions.

Lalsy - I wanted The Lake District as the Frenchies in the family here have never seen it. It's not an area I know terribly well either so I thought it would be a change. We're from North Yorkshire originally so we've done quite a bit of Yorkshire/Northumbria. I wanted to walk Striding Edge.

Cremo · 02/05/2016 19:11

God I am in raptures over Crepe Farmhouse, Addle. Looks wondrous !
I'd go for definite, if we were rounding 17 people up.or less. 😊

Stropperella · 02/05/2016 19:11

Heh, addle, I know that place. Not very far from me at all. :)

Herbs, that is so lovely about your niece. How fantastic! The aged Ps situation, by contrast, sounds very troubling. Hope your dmum will see the sense in having the carers there more frequently when she gets used to the whole idea.

WAF, hooray for your dd2. Well done her!

Rose, sorry to hear about the stressful revision.

Here, dd has had the fluey-type lurgy all w/e, but has continued to revise in bed, whilst filling the bin with used tissues and knocking back cold and flu medication. She is looking proper poorly. And ds has returned from scout camp having had a good time, but also brewing up the same lurgy. They are currently lying on the sofa in their dressing-gowns with red high temp faces, sniffing sadly, but their appetites appear unaffected

MI, I know DP means well, but I don't think lectures are awfully helpful at this point. Flowers

Cremo · 02/05/2016 19:22

Thought it might be nearby Stropps.

Herbs what Stropps said.>> Sad I dread this situation , but you can bet your house that it will be byzantine and impossible when it comes. I wish you luck and hope that your mum will assent to have help in an ongoing way.

WAF , very well done to dd btw.

Much fortitude to the Crepeys in the grip of exams. Shamrock

bigTillyMint · 02/05/2016 19:25

Addle I'm in. Asap - I feel about a hundred and ninety atm!

Herbs I can't remember if your father has Attendance Allowance? It's not means tested. I only just got it sorted for DM. Well a lovely man from Age UK helped me fill in the forms.

Hatty, the Lakes are beautiful - I spent a few childhood holidays there. And we camped there with friends when the DC were small. Much busier than Northumberland or Yorkshire though.

herbaceous · 02/05/2016 19:27

I don't think he has, BTM, but this community matron person will probably get on the case. Their GP, oddly, is v proactive, and they're always having social workers and the like turn up offering grab rails.

I'm having an unexpected hankering to go to Northumberland for holidays. Big beaches, castles, nice food... As long as it doesn't piss down solidly for a week (a risk, I realise) could be good! Either that or Rome and Ponza...

bigTillyMint · 02/05/2016 19:45

She will be able to advise him/your DM of what they can apply for/aides and adjustments for the house etc if she's like the one who came for DM. I found it quite a lot to take in at once Blush! The GP sounds great!

bigTillyMint · 02/05/2016 19:45

Northumberland is fabulous. But you don't go for the weather Grin

wordassociationfootball · 02/05/2016 19:54

Grin at slithering Hattie

DH still on drive home so asked next door neighbour (the nice one) if I could borrow him when Gumtree man came to look at drums. Gumtree man could not have been smaller or less scary. He assumed NDN was my dh, It was funny.

Sorry meant to say lots more but have to urgently go on the New Look website for dd!

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/05/2016 19:58

Herbs, that sounds grim, but hopefully the community matron (ooer) will sort him out? Huge sympathy to all dealing with aged parents. I am bracing myself to call my mother...

Have just noticed that I am due to be away for a week for work over half term. DH will have to take leave - he has more than me anyway, and it is only DD2, as DD1 breaks up in early/mid June.

In S & B news, went into TK Maxx today and bought ginormous bottles of shampoo and conditioner, as we go through the stuff at a rate of knots. Also got some Una Brennan Superfacialist moisturiser and some Nip & Fab Bee Sting Cream. Am also having a love in with Nyx eyeliner - have Golden Olive and Bronze for a change. Cheap and lasts for ages.

Can't remember if I told you, but That Colleague is going to be my line manager... Told DH, as he asked what was happening (he knows my current boss who is leaving for a new job) and he said very charmingly "He fancies you and wants to get in your knickers." Shock Hmm

In non S & B news, cat has just thrown up up the wall, and the other one has shat on the bath mat. She is going to a new home in the next couple of weeks.

Life in the hovel...

bigTillyMint · 02/05/2016 20:14

MrsS, it seems that your DH is not quite so green as he's cabbage-lookingGrin
Glad to hear you have found a home for your cat.

Hatty, I bet they are soooooooo cute, those little Y2s!

hattymattie · 02/05/2016 20:34

Mrs S - DH has got it all sussed. Glad you've finally found a home for the shitten.

BTM - they are cute - I love how they come and hug you when they see you between lessons. They won't be doing that next year!

motherinferior · 02/05/2016 20:34

Apparently Nyx does a cheap tubing mascara! Must try it.

Just had a bloke collecting for Marie Curie nurses at the door. DSis and I cackled grimly.

hattymattie · 02/05/2016 20:35

Settling down for MasterChef now.

Cremo · 02/05/2016 21:06

Me too Hatty. Do you really fancy a plate of cinders with milk soup in a plum jelly painted gold? Hmm. Bet it actually tastes nice, but look rank.

Hope you aren't too sad Mrs S, to see the departure of the shitten. I know they are wee bastards, but we do love them.

Snort @ Marie Curie collection. Isn't it ironic? as Alanis would have said.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/05/2016 21:11

I was quite Hmm re DH's comment as he has only met my colleague a couple of times in the office, when he has popped in briefly to bring me something I'd left at home, and once at home when he (and others) came round for drinks after work.

I am making cheese, onion and herb bread.

Cremo · 02/05/2016 21:33

Now that it's 'out there' Mrs S , perhaps the attraction will fade? Hmm

I am testing this for effectiveness. I live in hope of snake oil. It smells rather calming and has a gel like consistency and is immediately smoothing after use. Seems to be quite moisturising as well, on the old lizard skin

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/05/2016 21:44

Well maybe, Crem. I'm not looking to jump on him in the stationery cupboard or anything. I think the attraction can stay there, as long as neither of us acts on it. I'm not going to embarrass myself by leaping on him, and I don't suppose he is either.

Blackduck · 02/05/2016 21:57

Is it because it's a male boss you haven't hated MrsS? Or is potential boss giving off vibes?

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/05/2016 22:12

No idea, BD. I find it quite odd, tbh - DH hasn't spent more than 5 minutes in my office and I don't think I spoke to the colleague at all, beyond saying "red or white?" when he came round for drinks (with about 15 other people).

herbaceous · 02/05/2016 22:39

Maybe he's being cunning. Maybe he's spotted that you're a leetle bit enamoured, and wanted to see your reaction was if he said that boss fancies you?

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/05/2016 22:42

Maybe. I think he would normally just come out and ask though - he has done before.
