As a size 16 Apple, would this dress suit?

You can certainly wear it, yes. Have you tried it on?

People will say you maybe shouldn't and yes, Technically there are 'better' shapes for apples. Bugger that though. IMO people usually look best wearing something that makes them feel fab and reflects their personality.

Lovely dress. Definitely worth a try.

No. In my experience when you are slightly larger and especially apple shaped, dresses that are nipped in at the waist like that are not flattering. They eccentuate the lack of a waist and really make the muffin top show. This is my experience from being a size 16/18 apple shape for years. I can only wear these sorts of dresses now that I have lost 3.5 stone. By all means try it on, it could be cut amazingly and not cause any issues, but every dress like this that I tried on at your size and shape was a disaster.

civilfawlty · 28/04/2016 21:04

Of course you can. All these stupid rules. Try it on, and if you feel lovely, you'll look wonderful.

Laska5772 · 28/04/2016 21:05

The only thing I have found with these sort of dresses is that they do tend to come up small, especially around the waist , I would buy for your waist measurement . and be prepared to size up , ( and maybe also get the bodice altered by a dressmaker )

I was going to say to try the LindyBop Ophelia or LadyVLondon Madison if the fit isn't quit right 'cause they are the same style. But there aren't many ophelia's ATM. Seems it's actually a LadyV dress anyway - here . 15 quid cheaper from source too. Bonus.

MrsLettuce · 28/04/2016 21:31

(Forgot the ophelia link)

I have just bought this and I have apple tendancies! but had to buy the XL (16) and I am a size 12/14

can I wear this dress?
MrsLettuce · 28/04/2016 21:59

Yes, a lot of the repro' dresses are made to old sizing. Always worth checking measurements against their size charts.
Looks like a great dress Laska!

Donge13 · 29/04/2016 09:56

Thanks for the advice everyone. Will check the sizing, but will probably up size

I think it's actually quite flattering as a shape for women who aren't a size 4 - the waistband is really high, practically under your boobs, which means the flare is very concealing!!
