Stiff zip

I've just bought a lovely dress from coast for my birthday celebrations (50 this year) but the zip is really stiff. I ended up doing it up with the zip at the front and then turning the dress round and wiggling into the sleeves! Is there anything I can do to make the zip run more smoothly the dress fits beautifully when I can get it done up.

Running a pencil over it is supposed to help.

Is it a plastic zip or a metal one? I agree with the pencil as you are effectively putting graphite on it, but I have also heard about rubbing a bar of soap along the teeth for a plastic one.

It's a metal one so will try the pencil. I don't want to send it back as it looks nice on.

Or rub a candle up and down the zip, then run it up and down a few times (whilst the dress is off!)

Carefully apply furniture polish with a cotton bud.
