Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation - Best budget foundation?

Hi,

So I found my perfect foundation - YSL Youth Liberator. Unfortunately I ran out, without any warning (beautiful, but opaque bottle) and very quickly too. Only lasted about 3 months! I simply can't afford another one right now, but all my back ups seem rubbish after discovering this one! Trust me to fall in love with a foundation with a £40 price tag!

Anyway, I've heard the Healthy Mix foundation is on par with some of the high end, counter ones. I'm pale and find it difficult to colour match, so what is the colour range like?

True?... I'm on my way to boots this afternoon, so am going to be frantically refreshing this thread

I really liked in but the colours are pretty crap for pale skins. Even the lightest shade was too orange on me unfortunately.

I really like it. I was a high end foundation girl, only ever bought chantecaille, Estée Lauder or ysl (touche eclat foundation for me). I bought the bourjois healthy mix serum foundation after reading so many recommendations. I really like it, but the colour range is poor, at least what is in the stand at my local boots is only about six colours. I am a BD40 in ysl, and I buy the 02 vanilla in bourjois. My skin is dry, and I have read reviews of the bourjois from people with oily skin and they didn't rate it.

I agree that it is not for you if you are on the oily side. I like to be dewy, but my skin is a bit on the combination/oily side and this went from dewy to almost glossy very, very quickly. It is lovely in terms of glow, coverage, etc. though. I gave mine to my mum, who is dry.

I use this foundation and love it, I use light vanilla which can sometimes be hard to get at least in my local boots.

Ah ok. Slightly disappointed on the colour range front, as this is always an issue for me.

Serum or no serum?

When I'm cash-strapped I tend to go for Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation. It's not wonderful but it's pretty good for the price and keeps my fair, combination skin looking relatively okay.

Rimmel London Wake Me Up foundation is good, they also have a better colour range and L'oreal True Match - they use cool/warm/neutral for skin matching. I find Bourjois too yellow-toned for my skin.

Bourjois health mix NOT serum is much nicer than HMSerum. That was slimy. I agree re poor colour.
Maybelline Silk something liquid is good, and a better colour for me than Bourjois.
Max Fac whipped cream is also good.

Another vote for the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation, I love it. I did use the Bourjois one and really liked it, but the one shade that suited me obviously suits the entire town and was continually sold out! But once I tried the Wake Me Up I've not bothered to try anything else at that price point.

If you're pale the 10 hour sleep one is better - I love it and it's the only liquid Foundation I will wear.

The healthy mix is wonderful but not suited to an oiler skin, for that you'd be better off with Bourjois 123 perfect, I think it's called, lightest is vanilla.

I really didn't like it at all. Crap coverage.

I have a bottle of Healthy Mix Serum. Too yellow and it accentuates my pores even though they are normally invisible.

I have gone from high end to Loreal Paris True Match which works v well on my oily skin. Expensive foundations tend to have a wider range of colours but cheaper foundations are much better than they used to be IMO. They sometimes tend to the pink end, as well.

True Match has lots of good yellow tones; the only problem I have is finding my colours as lots of smaller shops only stock a few of the most popular shades, not my pale/yellow based one - so tend to buy two or three bottles at a time.

Can anyone explain the difference between the two types of Healthy Mix and which is best for oily/combination skin?

Just neither of them are good for combination/oily skin as the effect is dewy and that can make oily skin look really shiny, if you want one from Bourjois for that skin type then it'll be 123 Perfect or Air Mat but I'd recommend: Revlon Colorstay for Oily/Combination or L'oreal Infallible 24h Matte for affordable foundations and Estée Lauder Double Wear and MAC Studio Fix Fluid for more expensive foundations.

The difference between the two is that one is just a foundation and the other is a foundation with serum added to it.

I wear the lightest shade in loreal infallible and its a great budget buy. I'm pale and freckly and it suits my colouring well.

i have always found l'oreal foundation really good with good coverage. I have used the colour match and infalliable.

No7 is good too. i have one of theres now but cant think which type it is.

NYX seems to be a cheap brand of the moment. Could be worth reading reviews on their foundation, boots should probably have some.

I have a lovely new L'Oréal one. True match?

It's my Holy Grail daytime foundation when I'm running out of Dior Star, or money is tight. Vanilla is my shade, the slight yellow tone is good for me as I am a tad red.

Sounds like L'Oreal may be winning when it comes to shade selection.

Yeah the L'oreal True Match has a good shade range; with cool, warm and neutral options. It also has a new formula! I prefer the infallible one though as it has a nearly-matte effect!
