40+ - shampoo recommendations for dull hair

My hair looks really dull, whether it's clean or needs washing. It always used to have shine and natural blonde highlights, but over the last couple of years it's growing out darker (and going grey) and I suspect the dullness is something to do with my age.

Can anyone recommend a shampoo and conditioner please.

I dont waste time reading about expensive shampoos that are laden with chemicals that strip your hair then having to condition. Ive found Holland & Barrett Dr Organic range absolutely brilliant. I use the olive oil one and have nothing for praise for it. My head doesnt itch and is bright and light in feeling.

As for the dullness I too have stopped hi-lighting and reverted to all over tint. Because of the grey it works if you keep around your natural colour. I go to a good hairdressers every 8 weeks (can push longer) and as the colour is close to my natural the roots are not howling through. I couldnt leave my natural colour as have strips of grey and its a light brown and bland as hell. I would def try for an uplift in colour but make sure the hairdresser is good with colour as grey is hard to manage and you can end up with a bleached or orange glow.

Thanks for that, Bacon. I'm not sure I want to go down the route of having my hair tinted (not yet anyway!) but will certainly look at the Holland & Barratt shampoo when I'm in town at the weekend as I was half wondering if something more natural may help.

I haven't bought it (yet) but Dove Advanced Series Youth Vitality is aim at those of us with older hair, dull, thinning. They have it on sale in Boots on offer at the moment.

I'm in my 40s and my hair is looking dull and frizzy on the top half of my head. I read that increasing my intake of omega 3 oils (in things like salmon, olive oil, seeds, nuts) and eating plenty of fruit and veg could help, so I'm trying that. I guess it'll take a couple of months to see any results.
