Wide leg trousers with heels - would you?

I really fancy some wide legs (something like this from cos or even these ones from M&S) looked decent in store but looking around I see that they are usually styled with flat shoes. I've put a bit if weight on recently and the extra height would make me feel more 'balanced out' if that makes sense - but wide legs & heels was what I was wearing to work 10 years ago and so I'm not sure if it they would feel right now.

So, after that v long preamble - if you were going for wide legs, what would you wear with them?

Flat shoes every time. Heels will look wrong. Maybe a wedge sandal would work?

Only wedges or flats I think. Not heeled boots for example. That would look dated in my opinion.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case! I find that when I wear wedges I walk clumpily so stay away from them for that reason. I was thinking of something a bit covered like this

I love brogues with wider leg trousers, but I like the sort of androgynous look to my clothes and don't go for anything overtly girly so I'd never wear heels anyway. In the summer a lovely pair of dune leather flip flops would look great too, or even converse with the M&S ones. Heels would unbalance the look and make them too flappy, keep them for cigarette cuts etc.

I think you're right, maybe I will go for some causal wide legs, Zara had loads in. I never wear heels with 'thinner' trousers though as they make me feel too dressed up for work. I tend to wear brogues with trousers just above the ankle (when it's warm enough!). Maybe I should re-consider culottes if I want heels that don't look dressy?

Of course you can wear heels, but block heels rather than stilettos and only if the trousers are either still long enough with them on (floor skimming) or look intentionally cropped..

Not stilettos. I've seen quite a few people wearing them with chunkier shoes - block heels or platform soles - recently, which doesn't make them look dumpy like flats do.

I think the M&S ones would be better with heels as they are more tailored/less flappy.
Wedge/stack/block-heeled boots to do a sort of 70s look.
Or with wedge sandals for a sort of 30s Riviera look.

Wedges or chunky heels are fine (some nice chunky heeled & soled 70s inspired sandals out there at the mo), but make sure the trousers are long enough to come down almost to the floor.

Flat shoes with wide legged trousers only suit tall, slim, long legged people imo.

Slightly wedged flatform sandals will work well with the M&S trousers.

I would steer clear of very flat soles if you go for a wedge or heel, a slight platformed sole is much nicer.

Ooh thanks all! I actually tried the m&s ones on today but they aren't heavy enough to fall right so I'll have to go somewhere with more shops.

Definitely no stilettos; they catch on the trousers as you're going up or downstairs and cause horrific ly embarrassing injuries.

Like Dame I never wear heels and I love the wide leg and brogues look. I'm 5'3 so I'm careful not to go too wide. For what it's worth I think they can look a bit dated with heels.

I wasn't even thinking of the fashion element... I once had a terrible accident falling down the stairs having caught my heel in the hem of my wide leg trousers. Really hurt myself (and my pride). Never again :)

Next have got some brilliant wide legs in at the moment for £25!

I've got them in the black and the navy and am wearing them to death.

I've just ordered both the navy and black wide leg trousers from M&S with their navy block heel court shoes. I think it'll work ok.
