I don't want anything medicated or from the GP I just want to find a good shampoo and conditioner that doesn't flare my scalp up and also makes my hair nice! My hair is dry and coloured too am I doomed or can someone with similar issues recommend something?
(No homemade rinses etc please) :)

The only one that works for me is Oilatum shampoo, the normal not the intense one.
It cleans but doesn't smell and doesn't irritate.
I have to use it for every wash though otherwise I am scratching again. It does a great job.
I find any conditioner is fine as long as it doesn't touch the scalp.

Kiehl's Oliver fruit.

Ammonium laurel sulphate is much, much milder than the usual sodium lauryl sulphate. SLS can penetrate deep into the skin, which is why it's so awful to use if you're sensitive to it. ALS can't penetrate in the same way, so is far less irritating than SLS.

If you haven't tried ALS shampoos like Faith in Nature, they're worth a shot as they work for most people with SLS irritation.

If you find you need to avoid ALS as well, shampoos become harder to find (and more expensive) but they do exist. Green People irritated scalp shampoo is one, plus some baby shampoos like Burt's Bees fragrance free baby shampoo or Lavera baby neutral shampoo.

Conditioners don't usually use SLS (or ALS) though, so if they irritate as well then it's worth trying some fragrance-free conditioners like FiN.

Uphill thanks for mentioning Pure Nuff Stuff - I hadn't come across it before and it looks fantastic (and not horribly expensive!)Smile

Uphillanddowndale12 · 15/04/2016 23:53

Geeka you're welcome 😀 I've just put an order in today. I have almost got to the point where I forget I ever had itchy irritated flakey scalp, unless I wash my hair in some ordinary shampoo. My hair gets commented for its shine and softness. You do tend to get carried away when you go onto purenuffstuff's website - there's so much to buy and they're so brilliant and very helpful if you have a query

Eucerin dermocapillaire

These are my life savers. I too have psoriasis and use these alternatively.

sounds like its just going to be a case of trial and error, but maybe its something in your diet you could adjust for your psoriasis?

The only thing that sorted my scalp (and was recommended by my hairdresser) is the Body Shop Ginger shampoo - amazing stuff.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 16/04/2016 12:28

Yes I used that for a while - thoughtvthey'd discontinued it? There was also a lovely weleda one (either rosemary or ginger) but they changed the formulation and it didn't work for me any more.

It's back Shotgun!

I use a range called Unite, only available in hairdressers. Sls free shampoo, scalp conditioner etc. I also use their argon oil as a conditioner, it's expensive but you really don't need much, I've had my bottle two years and I use it about once a week.

They also do a spray leave in conditioner (in the seven seconds range), which I use most days. That shouldn't aggravate your scalp.

See if any of your local salons sell it. It's all in plain ish white bottles.

Indecisivejo · 25/04/2016 08:56

Ok so an update.....
I bought some Paul Mitchell stuff as recommended by a hairdresser in a salon after I discussed with her my problems and now my scalp is worse than ever! So sore, flaky and itchy, lots of hair falling out and hair just miserable (like me)
I bought some faith in nature yesterday after the recs on here so will keep you posted....

Jo, have you ever tried a cider vinegar treatment?

It sorted me right out and I no longer use specialist / treatment shampoos, e.g. TGel, only SLS-free ones.

I dilute it 50:50 with water, spray generously into my scalp and massage, leave it on overnight or at least for an hour, then shampoo as normal.

Indecisivejo · 25/04/2016 09:49

Hi,
No I haven't tried that, I'm just very very lazy and I know I wouldn't bother doing it I cba with homemade stuff I'm my own worst enemy lol. Thank u though.

The Elvive stuff is amazing .

NanTheWiser · 25/04/2016 12:20

I'm using E45 shampoo, which seems to have completely cleared my itchy, flaking scalp, about £6.

gingerbreadmanm · 25/04/2016 12:22

I've just bought the elvive clay sillicone free one. i dont have psoriasis just greasy hair but might be worth looking into?

midnightmoomoo · 25/04/2016 12:30

What about organic baby shampoo?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2016 12:57

I found the clay one really really odd, have me the worst greasy hair ever! I gave it to a friend who said the same. Smells nice though!

Indecisivejo · 25/04/2016 13:37

I will see how I get on with faith in nature for a bit, fingers crossed.

Dame I found the same with that clay one, made my hair look horrible!

Jo I wish you luck! I keep racking my brain to help but I'm stumped.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2016 20:46

It was the strangest stuff I've ever used along with the Naked range which made my hair like straw!Grin
