I loathe fancy dress. But I can't avoid it- I have agreed to go to 30's Murder Murder Mystery for my pet charity. I am old, short, fat.......and tight!. What can I wear???? I though of going as Mrs Patmore, but I don't suppose that would do, would it?

Miss marple? Get to a charity shop for some old lady clothes Grin

BertrandRussell · 13/04/2016 20:18

I wouldn't have to go to a charity shop for old lady clothes!

But the rest of my table will be quite glam so I would like to look a bit nice if possible. I wonder if I could get a Violet Crawley outfit for not mega bucks........

How about a pair of slinky pjs? Undies on underneath, obv, but you'd look glam (go full on with the make up and hair etc) and be comfy. Pink or Ivory faux satin pjs, champagne glass and a cigarette holder - channel Marlene Dietrich! Just don't stand too close to any naked flames.

Slinky Pjs would really work if you'd not feel too exposed.

You could probably dye and maybe slightly alter an 80's wedding dress to something along the lines of Violet Crawley. This sort of thing. Ebay for diamante choker and that.

But, it is essentially a Edwardian style that she wears so maybe not really right unless you're over maybe 65 or 70 so. Old enough to have theoretically got 'stuck' wearing styles from 20/25/30 years earlier.
