What do you do with your eyebrows?

I know the look at the moment is very much statement eyebrows but I don't give a shit about that. What I give a shit about, is if my eyebrows compliment my face or not. Also, I don't particularly like that over dramatic eyebrow look that I'm seeing a lot of. Even threaded eyebrows can look a bit OTT to me.

Sometimes I fill my eyebrows in with an eyebrow pencil, sometimes I don't and I really can't decide which looks better. I think it can depend on other things for example, how much make up I'm wearing.

What do you do with your eyebrows and is your face generally better off for it?

Thread every 4-6 weeks
She takes out just a few hairs but does a great shape.
The clear mascara in the mornings.
I really like the way it has improved my very average face. I can now wear eyeliner and it looks neat!

missapples · 14/04/2016 22:00

Tattooed here

Chinks123 · 14/04/2016 22:02

I've only just started doing something with them, just because I feel my face could be framed a bit better. I don't do the statement brows either, I know they're in but I don't know how Blush

I get them waxed and tinted and my face does look better. I came home after and DP said "ooh your face looks even nicer than usual today" but didn't click it was the eyebrows Grin

Ferrerotoffeemint · 14/04/2016 23:13

I just pluck and shape them. I have dark thick brows which have always framed my eyes well. I have had them threaded, waxed and plucked by professionals in the past but not having much time these days I just pluck the strays and am delighted my brows are totally on trend with barely any effort from me. My hair is naturally lighter than my brows so I've never needed to add any colour etc.

JamNan · 15/04/2016 07:56

DIY Eyelure kit £8-ish from chemist or Boots to cover grey salt n pepper eyebrows is not a desirable look. Easy peasy.

BowChickaBowWow · 15/04/2016 10:13

I'm lucky that mine are naturally quite a nice shape (I've had beauticians ask where I get them done!). I just pluck the stragglers every so often and I've recently started using a bit of dark powder and an angled brush to add a little definition when going out, but it's a bit much for every day.

CauliflowerBalti · 15/04/2016 10:45

I pluck mine when I remember, and use powder to define the arch and clear mascara (cheaper than brow gel) to make them stay in a nice shape.

I had them threaded once and it looked ace, but can't be faffed with the faff of keep going.

My brows are naturally an OK shape though and I don't get too many stragglers. I could probably make more of an effort and they'd look amazing, but then I could do that with my make up and clothes too but life is too short. Tidy and roughly in the right place is all the ambition I have for my eyebrows.

Dancergirl · 15/04/2016 10:57

Does the castor oil really work? I also over plucked in my teens.

SlightlyJaded · 15/04/2016 10:58

My brows are a source of constant effort. They are dark and the hairs are thick and long, but there are patches where I overplucked as a teenager - the worst combination.

I do fill the gaps with a stilla brow pencil and get the stragglers threaded which gives a decent arch, but it's a daily chore and the stilla doesn't last all day. I have been wondering what to do for a while - I think HD Brows are better if you have fair brows or am I mistaken?

What I'd love is permanent removal of the hairs that are out of place, semi or permanent fill of the gaps and occasion trim of the longer hairs, so that all I had to do in the moring, was stroke through a clear gel/wax.

But I am scared of ending up with a scouce brown.

Is this process even a thing? And what would an HD Brow do for mine?

Any insight welcome!!

puzzledbyadream · 15/04/2016 11:31

I've got proper Hermione Granger eyebrows, really dark, bushy and straggly. Got my dad to thank for that. I was teased mercilessly for them growing up but I quite like them now, although they probably look a little odd with my red hair.

My eyebrow routine usually goes like this:
Get them threaded in Superdrug. Marvel at why I left it so long.
Pluck the stragglers out for a while. The middle bit is a constant battle. I wish I was as cool as Frida Kahlo sometimes.
Get lazy, start hiding one under my fringe and plucking the other one half-heartedly.
Eyebrows out of control.
Go to see the nice lady in superdrug.

I've not found a brow gel I like, they all make my eyebrows look a bit fake. They might have improved though!

Paperthin · 15/04/2016 13:39

Anyone tried the brow bar place in selfridges Manchester? Have never done anything with my brows - but starting to think I need to after reading this. I have been trying to pluck up the courage to go to get them threaded as think this might be the more pain free option?

MyLocal · 15/04/2016 13:54

tint and thread them. I am too old now to have arched and perfect statement brows, but tinting and threading deffo improves them.

Fluffy24 · 15/04/2016 13:59

What are HD brows?!

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 15/04/2016 14:08

I get mine threaded max every 6 weeks and pluck in between. It makes a massive difference. Every time I look in the mirro after threading I think "ooooh, I look pretty!" Grin It just really opens up my eyes.

I have no gaps or greys so don't use any pencil or gel.

EarSlaps · 15/04/2016 17:58

Pick the stragglers in the middle and on the brow bone and then leave them. Maybe trim a bit sometimes. I brush out any face powder that gets in them but mine are naturally dark and thick and would look like big slugs if I used any pencil or powder in them. I used to make them thinner in the 90s (late teens) but it has all grown back.

jazzmin · 15/04/2016 19:02

Wonderbrow for me. Over plucked, so just fill them in and they last a couple of days. My teenage daughter says they look flick or fleek now, or whatever it is teenaged girls say.

Thatrabbittrickedme · 15/04/2016 20:07

I too would love to know what HD brows are/involve - not a thing I had even heard of until very recently on MN.

FWIW (not much!) I pluck my mono and a few stragglers, that is it...

Cineraria · 16/04/2016 01:17

If I do my brows, I get more compliments than after anything else I do to my appearance and yet the compliments are rarely about my brows, just that I look well, younger or asking what I've done as something is different. I do a lot to them but only one every six weeks and it doesn't take long, maybe 30 minutes or so.

First, I tint them black, just for a couple of minutes, brushing against the grain so the tint is on the hairs and none goes on the skin.

Then I beach the surrounding hairs above the brows and below the hairline with facial beach, giving a neat shape, definition and making the forehead look cleaner

Next I wax the bit in the middle

I use tweezers under the brow to get the shape I want, giving an even taper rather than a sudden arch and taking plenty from under the bit nearest the nose to make the brow thinner, which is what I think makes the most difference.

When putting on make-up, I look at the most dense part of the brow and add dark eye shadow to the rest to match it.

TippyTappyLappyToppy · 16/04/2016 05:44

I'm the same as you OP. I hate an overly strong brow, I think it's very ageing.

I have naturally quite fine, well arched and dark-ish eyebrows. Bushiness has never been a real issue for me but I did used to wax them just to keep them neat, then I discovered threading and switched to that - tons better imho. I find I don't even need to do that now I am menopausal as they have become quite sparse. Sad

I've recently for the first time in my life started to fill them in with a brow pencil as I do think they need a bit more definition but I don't like them to look like they've come out of a packet from a fancy dress shop and been stuck on. I loathe that look - it suits precisely no-one.

Even though my brows are quite dark I use a medium brown pencil to fill them in and I do it with a light feathery motion. Using a pencil that is too dark looks fake and heavy. I also have a MAC Penultimate Brow Marker which is like a vry fine paint brush with a liquid brow stain rather than a pencil. That's a good product.

Then I brush them over with a brow brush. It definitely helps my make-up look more finished.

JuxtapositionRecords · 16/04/2016 07:02

I need to do something with mine. They don't grow, are so thin and fair and an awful shape. When I can spend time on them with a pencil my whole face looks so much better - but it takes ages to get right!

Does anyone have HD brows that aren't ridiculous? How long does it take to fade? I'm really considering it but in scared! When I looked into salons near me that did it, one used this photo to promote HD brows Hmm exactly what I don't want them to look like!

What do you do with your eyebrows?
TippyTappyLappyToppy · 16/04/2016 09:46

When I said brows that look like they've come out of a packet from a fancy dress/joke shop that's exactly the look I meant!

I do know some over 50's ladies who have had tattooed brows due to their brows thinning out with age and they look fabulous. But the key to getting it right is understanding that less is more. Not too thick, not too dark is VERY important, and not so highly arched that they look totally unnatural.

Also, a neat sharp shape is all very well but that ruler-straight line at the end looks very artificial. When done well they should look slightly feathered and shaded, not all solid like that. They are ridiculous. You can still opt to pencil them in a bit more if you really like that look, but to have them tattooed like that is just daft.

seafoodeatit · 16/04/2016 11:06

Not a lot, I pluck them to maintain shape and remove odd hairs but I hate pencil thin brows and the crazy caterpillar trend/ stenciled on looking thing going around.

ShesAGreatGas · 16/04/2016 11:50

My natural brows are bushy and black, so I just get them threaded for a bit of shape every 6 weeks or so.

diddl · 16/04/2016 15:36

I pluck when I get around to it.

They are pretty much like this

Bishoplyn · 16/04/2016 16:04

I get them tinted and threaded every 3 - 4 weeks.
Word of warning - I'd been getting HD Brows done successfully for a few years. Took a terrible allergy to them this time last year - eyes swollen shut, red, developed bad conjunctivitis as a result.
