What do you do with your eyebrows?

I know the look at the moment is very much statement eyebrows but I don't give a shit about that. What I give a shit about, is if my eyebrows compliment my face or not. Also, I don't particularly like that over dramatic eyebrow look that I'm seeing a lot of. Even threaded eyebrows can look a bit OTT to me.

Sometimes I fill my eyebrows in with an eyebrow pencil, sometimes I don't and I really can't decide which looks better. I think it can depend on other things for example, how much make up I'm wearing.

What do you do with your eyebrows and is your face generally better off for it?

what do you do with your eyebrows

Mourn the fact they upped and left when I was a tweezer happy teenager.

They can be resurected (to a degree) with a ybf eyebrow pencil, the brush and a waft of Gimme Brow.

Hassled · 12/04/2016 22:11

I too generally rely on my fringe to cover the worst of it. I am another recent convert to threading, though I wish the cheapo places weren't always quite so public - who really wants their eyebrows threaded in the middle of a shopping mall? But as I'm at the stage where I need reading glasses to see my eyebrows, but then can't pluck them because I'm wearing reading glasses, threading is my friend.

Lenazabaglione · 12/04/2016 22:18

Old school here - pluck any strays and define with eyebrow pencil. I think it frames my eyes better than just left natural.

ButterfliesinSpring · 12/04/2016 22:22

I get them threaded and use an angled brush to define them, also pluck them and trim them with nail scissors every few days

Not a fan of the HD brows but equally not a fan of no grooming at all

SimonLeBonOnAndOn · 12/04/2016 22:26

I raise mine most days.

MountainDweller · 12/04/2016 22:36

Mine are naturally thick (mono brow Blush) so I have them tweezed (allergic to wax) into submission professionally every few months, and tidy up myself in between. I go for an arched shape rather than a slug! I use Bobbi brown eyebrow gel which helps maintain the shape. I think a bit of professional attention can work wonders whether you are over- or under-endowed!

That isn't true, waxing doesn't cause sagging. That's just what people who only thread say to make you come to them over waxers.
It also doesn't last longer as some claim too. It's exactly the same- being pulled from the root.
Threading and waxing can give the exact same results it just depends on hair type, pain tolerance and any allergies which is best for each individual.

MyFriendsCallMeOh · 13/04/2016 00:17

I go to a magical threading lady and I feel like I've had a facelift after my monthly appointment. Bit of clear brow gel keeps them in place when I remember to use it. I have dark hair and brows, never used pencil, brow powder etc....

greenflame · 13/04/2016 06:44

Pluck strays, very occasional wax or threading, and use clear gel. Not a massive fan of using lots of pencil or powder on brows. Sometimes it looks a bit... Orangey brown and obvious.

cakedup · 13/04/2016 22:02

Ooh sorry, forgot about this thread! Blimey, some of you make a lot of effort for your eyebrows.

I'd never even heard of HD brows before, but having googled them just now I must say most of them do look great (compared to the 'before' pics). Do the HD brow stylists emphasise shaping your eyebrows to compliment your facial features? Because I think this is the most important thing. For example my nose is a bit on the large side, and the wrong kind of make up shading or eyebrow placement can really make a difference!

Some time ago, my aunt tattooed my eyebrows (she a professional, it wasn't a dare or anything!) and I absolutely loved them at the time but just can't quite remember what they looked like. They've faded now and I'm thinking of getting them done again (and it's free!).

Nothing. Just a bit of liner on them and I just fix them by brushing my finger along them. That's it. Have never done anything to them.

ouryve · 13/04/2016 22:20

Attack them with the tweezers just enough to keep them apart and prevent them from mating. They don't need much shaping apart from that.

DS1 has rather gorgeous Hank Zipzer eyebrows. I would have a monobrow if I just let mine grow. He also has lovely long eyelashes. There is no justice.

AuldYow · 13/04/2016 22:47

I get mine threaded every 2 or 3 weeks, I never tweeze in between as the lady tells me off! No idea how she knows Confused

Personally I don't like HD eyebrows, I think they look too heavy. I just put some Vaseline on a night on mine to keep them smooth and use an eyebrow brush on them when I'm doing my makeup in the morning.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 13/04/2016 23:13

i pluck any really obvious stragglers but i don't even get many of those. the thinner end of my eyebrows especially just doesnt grow, seems to a symptom of my illness that my eyebrows have mostly just stopped growing. i very occasionally have them dyed one or two shades darker for a bit of extra definition but it's not jump off my face noticeable. i am trying out some stuff to encourage them to grow under supervision of my sister who is much more knowledgeable about this sort of thing than i am

Dawndonnaagain · 14/04/2016 15:11

I use a Stila pen, but I have alopecia so not much there in the way of brows. Despite the fact that I have been doing them for over 40 years, there are days when I can't get them to look as though they're related, let alone sisters or twins! Grin

jamtartandcustard · 14/04/2016 15:20

Pluck them and then leave them.
My neighbour has had brows, I think she looks like a clown personally but each to their own

rightknockered · 14/04/2016 16:37

I just pluck out a few stragglers and then pencil in (very lightly) any gaps. My eyebrows are odd

namechangingagainagain · 14/04/2016 17:39

I'm actually a big convert to HD brows ... and I say that as someone who is very low maintenance normally.

The lady who I used to go to was very understanding that I didn't want an OTT scouse brow. I looked groomed and more put together somehow.

I am a now lapsed HD brow person.....she changed the days she worked and I couldn't get childcare plus the £30 ish every 6-8 weeks was a bit daft!

I now dye them myself ( makes the biggest difference as I'm fair) and have a magnifying mirror and a decent set of tweezers. I occasionally get them threaded in a shopping centre but I'm quite lucky in that Ive never been much of a plucker so theres plenty of hair to work with!

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 14/04/2016 20:30

I tend to notice people's brows. With or without make up they make such a difference to the face.

Mine are dark with a natural arch, so I just use a bit of pencil or brow powder to even the colour and a brow balm for a sleek look.

Clown/insta brows are awful, but I do like a groomed, defined look, whether natural or faked Grin

chanice · 14/04/2016 20:36

I used to pluck when I was a teenager but when I saw older women who have plucked and compared it to women who didn't pluck I saw that the constant pulling of the skin around their eyes made their eye skin sag.
Now I just leave them and style them with a brow brush and sometimes a pencil.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 14/04/2016 20:41

I pluck and trim the upper edge. Although my hair is dark I have very sparse hairs, because I like wearing make up I do bold brows.

I use Illamasqua brow gel in Awe, I don't like the mascara types as I need a filler rather than colour. I sometimes use pencil but the gel is my favourite.

jellycake · 14/04/2016 20:58

I get mine done at a Benefit Brow bar every four weeks, wax and tint and I use Gimme Brow when they start to get a bit straggly. I had a mono brow as a kid and used to shave it Blush and love having groomed brows now. I did threading for a while but much prefer to have them waxed.

YvaineStormhold · 14/04/2016 20:59

Lift them up when I'm surprised, and lower them down when I'm pissed off.

RunswickBay · 14/04/2016 21:01

Thread and eyebrow pencil.

Arsenalfan06 · 14/04/2016 21:09

Threading and tinted .
I used to pluck them them so thin.
To make you eyebrows back nice and thick rub castor oil into them at night and wash off in the morning.
After about 3 weeks of growth i got them threaded into a lovely shape.
I get them done about every 3 weeks.
Love not having to do anything to them inbetween that time .
