Can I/should I wear this dress

Going to NY in the summer so have started to look at outfits.
I spotted this dress and LOVE it. DP says to buy it.

Before I do, am I too old to wear it in my late 20s? I feel it's pretty Carrie Bradshaw, but the fact it's described as 'ballet' inspired has made me question this. www.net-a-porter.com/gb/en/product/670478/needle___thread/coppelia-embellished-gauze-and-tulle-midi-dress

Can I/should I wear this dress

Yes to what Nickname just said. But I am breaking out in a sweat at the thought of a leather jacket in Manhattan in the Summer. Wonder where Google got that 18 degrees at night from????

Somerville · 09/04/2016 21:52

As others have said, you won't need a coat on summer evenings in NYC.

But you will need a cardie, sweater or light jacket anywhere you go indoors. Every building has their air con set to frigging freezing. You'll have goose pimples in that (beautiful) dress within minutes without having something to cover your arms with.

CarsonTheButler · 09/04/2016 21:53

A light pashmina type thing (if that's ok in your 20's, I have no idea) or a very thin, pretty cardigan.

Just enlarged the pic and it really is a gorgeous dress.

Jaimx86 · 09/04/2016 21:53

Ooo I'm glad to hear if it's warmer. What can I (and DP) get away with at night. Don't want to over pack x

Buy it, it's beautiful.

MizK · 09/04/2016 21:57

It's gorgeous, buy it.

Oh, to have small boobs Sad that is the sort of dress that looks dreamy on the slim woman and would look trashy on me!

MamaLazarou · 09/04/2016 21:59

It's lovely - wear it! Hope you have a lovely time x

I'd definitely wear it (and I'm 31, so if you're too old, I certainly am Wink). Wouldn't worry too much about being cold, I've been to a few restaurants in NY where the maitre d' has brought me a pashmina if it was a chilly evening.

I'd usually love the juxtaposition of black leather with such a delicate dress, but definitely not in NY in the summer. You'd boil! Even when it's rainy it still tends to be hot and stuff, ime.

ShadowsCollideIsSurroundedByAd · 09/04/2016 22:03

Oh, and enjoy New York, I'm exceedingly jealous Wink.

Jaimx86 · 09/04/2016 22:07

Thanks so much, everyone. I'm going to order it in the morning

Your comments about the climate have made both me and DP think about the clothes we take.

where everything you like NOW! Because the day will come when your wardrobe consists of duplicate trousers and jeans and you'll long to be frivolous and fun with your clothes.

PUGaLUGS · 09/04/2016 22:28

We were in NY last August, it was 79 degrees at 10pm still. You will not need a jacket to go out to dinner.

andintothefire · 09/04/2016 22:33

Agree - it's stunning! Though I would be really tempted to order this skirt too, just in case the top of the dress doesn't fit or I wanted something that I could wear with different tops: www.net-a-porter.com/gb/en/product/670481

Net-a-porter do really easy returns so may be worth hedging your bets Wink

228agreenend · 09/04/2016 22:37

It's lovely, and of course you can wear it in your 20s. Have a fab time.

Jaimx86 · 09/04/2016 23:30

I agree that's lovely andintothefiee. Think I'll try that top and skirt combo too, and can easily see how I can wear that for dinner in the UK.

Gorgeous dress! I'm too booby, I tend to avoid anything vest like on top as I feel incredibly exposed, otherwise I'd have snapped this up, it's absolutely beautiful!
I'm 31 (actually had DC in my teens Grin ) and would definitely wear it without the aforementioned problems!

polyhymnia · 09/04/2016 23:33

Definitely not too old but think it will look overdressed/ try hard in most urban settings, unless you are going to a specific 'smart' occasion.

Jaimx86 · 09/04/2016 23:46

The Modern (in the evening) is the place I have in mind for this dress. Although main reason I want it is because I loved it on first sight! Cautious as I don't own anything like it though.

Oh my god I'm 32 an I would wear the shit out of that it's gorgeous 😍 Please wear it with a leather biker jacket I love that look it's so cool

UsernamesAreAPainInTheBalls · 09/04/2016 23:50

Oh sorry just saw your going to NY in the summer you defiantly won't need a jacket I was there at the end of May and it was like 27 degrees. That coupled with the heat from the traffic etc and you'd melt in a biker jacket
