Royal ascot, to wear?

I went last year for the first time when 6 months pregnant. Great fun.

Hat, straps etc - yes I know the rules, the obvious stuff... Don't want to get it wrong... and I'm not pregnant this time

This dress - only seeing it online but really like it and it may forgive my curving post baby tummy. I'm tall and a size 10/12, is it appropriate / suitable?

Because it's cold and wet - not because that dress is horrible!!! It's very nice.

Ha! actually I was afraid of someone saying "but it's ages away you muppet" - it is ages away (about 8 weeks/I don't get out much!) but I'm living in the sticks and sourcing hat / dress etc - it's easier to plan now!

That's a beautiful dress, I'm wondering what colour shoes, bag, hat I'd choose - something unusual I think, but a simple style.

Thinking I'd stick with black for footwear and and hat? The model is lovely and pale - I wonder is the colour very hard to pull off though. I'm not great in white but it's quite off white so maybe ...

Yes, it's definitely Ascot appropriate. Black accessories will look lovely, or a black/ivory combination. I'd always wear tights with a dress like that, unlike the Aintree ladies - very pale, very sheer.

My latest first world problem is that I'm between sizes since the baby - can't decide do I order a 10 and hope for the best or the 12 which might be too big on the chest etc ...

God, I wish I had that dilemma! Don't know, buy both and send one back?? You're making me wish I was going now (haven't been for 6/7 years).

Hmm, I'll have a think about it. I remember being shocked last time at the number of drunken/high people lying around at the end of the day with their clothing awry. It's lovely getting all dressed up for it tho'. Very exciting.

Yes yes I totally agree - last year I noticed people never looked as good as when they walk in, it's a process of dishevelling after that - hats tilting, sweating and sliding make-up, shoes in hand, drunken skunks... can you tell I was pregnant and sober!

Last time I went, I went with an ex-bf who was wearing a lovely cream linen suit, crisp shirt etc etc. Except that about an hour in he had a nosebleed and ended up with the St John's Ambulance for a hour and a half - his suit was wrecked and I was left standing on my own like a lemon not knowing where he was! I got some dodgy looks, I can tell you, standing there dolled up to the nines with a glass of bubbly in my hand but like Billy no-mates.

My advice for anyone going racing is to avoid suede shoes. You will be walking on grass - mown grass,but grass nonetheless - and if the grass is even a bit damp it will ruin your shoes.

No, I felt quite sorry for him that day. It was later I discovered what a numpty he was. Lucky escape.

I realised one morning when I came downstairs (in his house) to find him with a freshly brewed cuppa (just the one) and a bowl of cereal (just the one), watching the football coverage, that there was only one person in his life. Fortunately I hadn't wasted too much time on him.
