WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp, Jan to half term, WEEK TWO

WideWebWitch · 07/01/2007 22:59

Welcome to week 2 everyone (or week 1 for some who didn't start last week)

For those of you who don't remember the rules, this is about feeling better about yourself so is not necessarily a diet per se but it is for six weeks, this is week 2.

The Rules

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. The odd glass of wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can, I am booking out lunch hours where possible to do this
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible. I am doing my heels daily too as they're lizard like
  • NEW RULE, HAND CREAM!
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

You don't have to report back every day but I almost certainly will as it motivates me thinking someone is watching me.

Ok, I've done pretty well apart from drinking last night but I am feeling highly motivated and I have kept it up for six days now (excepting the drinking on Sat) so welcome all members old and new.

I have been reading loads of womens mags this weekend btw and ALL the looking younger/feeling better advice is as above, I AM pleased!

If you've been doing well, here's a gold star

And if you haven't been doing so well, here's a badge for you

but at least you can run upstairs dinosaur

swedishmum · 10/01/2007 14:11

Had hair cut in salon for first time since before dd3 was born and she's 3 at the weekend

Apart from no sleep for 2 nights (4 sick children) I'm definitely feeling more energetic.

Zog · 10/01/2007 17:32

mrsmalumbas, some good suggestions there, thank you. I always think nuts are full of fat though - or is it "good" fat and so therefore OK? Blimey, when did eating get so confusing

You're one step further on than me with the exercise anyway, so well done

prufrock · 10/01/2007 19:26

Well Tuesday was pretty crap - had no energy and felt v. lethargic. I think it was a reaction to reducing ad dose - a physcosomatic one rather than a physiological one though. I also have huge amounts of pre-school committee work piling up so fell that hanging over me - but I will do at least some of that tonight.

So I ate;

Muesli
Pasta & Pesto
2.5 fishfingers, few chips and broccoli
Strawberries
2 wholemeal advocado salad sandwiches

Didn't exercise apart from 2 school run walks - which takes 30 minutes, but is more of an amble due to accopmaning toddler

Today is better so far.

Oh and batters - I now smile at memories of your reactions whenever I am scrubbing my stair carpet!

WideWebWitch · 10/01/2007 19:35

Well, I am feeling a LOT better and DH thinks I look thinner too. I've just had my hair cut and coloured and have gone from Bet Lynch to oh I don't know, someone in a novel with caramel highlights, I'm SO glad I could be arsed to change hairdresser.

A GOOD day!

Granola
an apple
3 brazil nuts
smoked salmon sandwich, no butter, just lemon juice, black pepper and salt
a hazlenut and sultana bar (125 cals)
another apple
a few grapes
and we're having sausages, sweet potato mash and peas tonight (didn't get round to it last night and had fishfingers and peas instead)
Walked for half an hour at lunchtime and IT DIDN'T HURT! MY BACK HAS STOPPED ACHING WHEN I DRAG IT UP A HILL! HURRAH. Dino, most impressed that you can run at all, I can't!
And used sunscreen while walking
def had 2 litres water
laughed quite a bit at work
sex last night
slept a reasonable amount, prob 11pm - 6.45am
NO BOOZE
applied body cream
AND filed my nails AND used handcream

100% I think you'll find!

Right, you lot:
For snacks between 4 and 7: an apple, toast with marmite, a banana, some cherry tomatoes, a few nuts. Anything except something fattening/crap. You shouldn't feel hungry, you should eat as much fruit and veg as it takes to feel not hungry.

Swedishmum, blimey, wasn't I telling you to get your hair dyed LAST time we did this? At last! Good for you.

Suzy, there's a clue in your sentence "well I've still been drinking 4nights out of 7,"

Batters, never mind, you'll be poor but you'll feel great! And yes, my skin always seems to get worse before it gets better but it's worth it in the end ime.

Winnie, well done.

Emzickle, um, well, not ten but maybe a bit better

Marthamoo, shut up moaning and join in , the first few days are the worst. I'm not generally thinking about wine in the evening now (although I did last night because stress = wine reaction but I didn't drink any) - apparently it takes doing something 10 times to make it a habit so I'm nearly in the habit of not drinkig in the week.

MrsM, well done on getting rid of the grey and see my note above about NOT eating buttered toast as a snack. Try to think of it as LARD rather than a snack, does that help? (said in manner of Marjorie Dawes)

Zog, no idea about nose, sorry but see note aout snacks.

I have tried thinking of alcohol as "Liqud Cake" since your body sees it as pure sugar and just banishes it straight to your fat stores. Even if you have enough to be going on with.

I will drink on Sat night but am enjoying feeling better for abstaining in the week.

Well done everyone! Have a sticker

Today has been much better -

Muesli
miso soup with rice noodles and some leftover peas and sweetcorn
didn't have one of the kids chocolate macaroons - ate 2 clementines instead
Chilli with brown rice (isn't it wierd how brown rice is delicious, but brown pasta tastes like cardboard)

Did yoga DVD, and remebered to turn on steam room halfway through, so sweated and scrubbed whole body afterwards, followed by cold shower.

No booze, and unlike last night, am not actually sitting here desperately wishing my water was wine. Like www by Friday I will officially have a habit of no weekday wine - hurrah

unknownrebelbang · 10/01/2007 23:53

Late tonight (Wednesdays is always busy, lol).

Anyway, providing I go straight upstairs rather than back into the kitchen, I've had a Good Day today foodwise.

No exercise alas, as it's soo busy on a Wednesday, unless you count 10 minutes playing a game with a group of Beavers.

Monkeytrousers · 11/01/2007 00:11

Been in London all day. Had supper at a friends; pasta and pesto + 2 glasses of wine..then two g&t's on the train back. Only just got back.

I think this is better than if I was just munching about at home though

Monkeytrousers · 11/01/2007 00:14

Mega walk from Kings Cross to Aldgate too..well at least half an hour.

(Met our mutual friend Sunny - quite intimidatingly fresh faced!)

arfishy · 11/01/2007 03:43

Oooh WWW. Leading by example eh? A sterling effort.

Suzy - I do WW points (well did) and last time I tried to lose my Aus-Weight I carried on drinking wine in the evening but just incorporated it into my points, 2 or 3 glasses per night (I know this sounds bad but it's hot and it's like being on holiday living here). I stuck within my points but the weight just didn't shift. I lost 4st before using WW but didn't drink wine. QED methinks.

Anyway, on Wed I did the lotions & potions and 5L of water (it was v.hot here).

Breakfast - 2 slices of toast with strawberries crushed on top, no butter
Morning tea - 2 light crackers with light philly
Lunch - 2 wraps with salad, chicken and a smear of avocado
Afternoon tea - light mousse (shouldn't really as v processed, but they're only 1 WW point and I couldn't help myself)
Dinner - wholemeal bread and chicken

Also exercised again - WW 30 minute routine with fit ball and rebounder.

No wine either. When I first arrived in Aus that was my rule too, so good to go back to it (and all those trousers I can't get over my arse).

Ahem! Can I join in? I know it's a bit late but in my defence I started the New Year with a conference in Florida and it's all been a bit awry since then. I don't particularly want to lose weight - we haven't got any scales so I couldn't actually monitor weight loss - but healthy eating, more water, more walking, more cream and definitely more sleep would be good. In between jetlag and a New Year resolution to Have More Sex, I've been averaging 6 hours a night which isn't enough. When you say no or little booze you don't really mean it do you? A glass of red wine, just one a night, is OK isn't it ?

So far, two slices of super-healthy quinoa and lentil toast, a cup of coffee (indispensible) and a brisk 30 minute walk from Waterloo to my office.

CAMy · 11/01/2007 09:41

I've been a bit naughty in the having a little red wine for the past 2 evenings department. Have done very well with the healthy food thing though.

I normally eat quite healthily but add bits of choc etc so I'm not doing that now.

Sleep, good but got woken up a couple of times by massive noisy storms on the coast.

Emzicle, seriously 10 pints of water?

It is possible to drink too much water, it can change the electrolyte balance

Zog · 11/01/2007 11:31

Thanks for the snack help www - I'm just about to go shopping, so will stock up.

My skin is definitely looking better (hurrah!) - re the redness, I think the programme said that eating less crap and drinking more water would help ease the redness, so hopefully, this regime will sort it out.

WideWebWitch · 11/01/2007 11:41

Well, I've just been to the doctor about my

Found it! here you go, water's good but don't drink ridiculous amounts!

OP posts:
winnie · 11/01/2007 15:13

I feel like pooh today as I had very late night due to horrible teenager and I had large glass of Jamesons (for same reason) and I ate a pkt of crisps But I am suffering for it which proves to me what we all know already that it is all really bad for you and our systems just learn to function badly with constant topping up of crap.

WWW, your toe infection sounds horrid and the treatment not so great either. Hope you have a miracle cure

Have drunk lots of water today and that is about it on the good stakes. Will get back into it though

WideWebWitch · 11/01/2007 20:52

Oh sorry to hear it winnie.

Ate smoked salmon sandwich for lunch
apple
some soya nuts (100cal)
and homemade pizza with a 500 cal base (but I didn't eat a whole one, prob 3/4) topped with veg, sardines, anchovies, capers, red pepppers
prob not enough water
no sunscreen
no walking as had to leave work for dr so worked through lunch
Must do better tomorrow.
Although have been in bed with laptop for a good 1.5 hours now and have cream on feet so that's something.

Oooh nasty about the fungal nail and how alarming about the doctor and his liver function tests. Why on earth do they need to nuke your liver to deal with a teensy toe nail?

Not that I've been drinking too much or anything but I've been taking Milk Thistle every day since Christmas (damn that family who gave me a case of champagne).

I'm not normally a herbal type but it was in all the Aussie magazines over Christmas about dealing with the festive season, so I thought I'd give it a go. And not drink cases of champage of course, just to help the tablets along.

Yesterday I ate:

Mango skinny smoothie for breakfast
2 wholemeal rolls with salad for lunch
A light mousse
WW wedges with a tiny bit of avocado
A WW chocolate roll to make up my points

3L of water, lots of potions. No exercise apart from walking, thought I'd better have a day off.

It's day 5 for me and I've started to feel better, thinner and more motivated. I'm not going to weigh myself for 2 weeks and I'm trying to exercise 4 days per week and not drink wine at all.

I am so energised I woke up at 5.30 this morning. Hmmmm.

CAMy · 12/01/2007 11:59

Thanks for posting about your infected toe www, its worked wonders for putting me off eating today

Dinosaur · 12/01/2007 14:16

Well, had rather too much to drink last night (one bottle beer, 1 1/2 glases red wine) but have been eating pretty well, drinking lots of water, body and heel creaming and done loads of walking today (Bethnal Green to Liverpool St this morning, St Pauls to Liverpool St at lunchtime).

I do feel better, and less bloated and toxic.

I am still doing this, honest

I fell off the wagon in spectacular fashion on Weds night but I do have the excuse of post-exam celebrating/commiserating. So since then I have eaten nothing but soup, seeds and fruit and quaffed many smoothies and mucho H2O.

My skin is actually looking much better. That is BIG NEWS for me, as usually I am pox-ridden. Also have been handcreaming it.

Am out tonight but with a friend who was similarly afflicted on Weds so we are having sushi and green tea and going to see a nice soothing film. NO ALCOHOL WHATSOEVER and an early-ish night.

Dinosaur · 12/01/2007 17:23

I keep forgetting about the handcreaming bit...
