Is it just me or are Converse cripplingly painful?

I literally cannot walk anywhere in Converse without getting foot pain due to hard sole and no arch support. They also rub heels and toes. Is it just me?! I have no problems with any other shoes - my feet are not an awkward shape or size. Are Superga any better for comfort?

Asics GT 2000 (2000 is wide feet, 1000 average width iirc) were amazingly comfortable, good for running, I just needed something more, um... Urban cool (trying not to sound terribly wanky).

The Nike lunarglides in black were the ones - really, everyone go buy them!

Hulababy · 04/04/2016 17:54

Zebra - I tried the surgical spirits, etc to try and harden my feet - sadly to no avail. My feet are so rubbish! Rest of me is fairly hardy - its just the stupid super soft feet, argh!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/04/2016 17:54

I've walked around several cities barefoot before now. Not sure I'd do that any more tbh, but I might if the only alternative was these.

Annarose2014 · 04/04/2016 17:55

I'm a nurse and 80% of the staff I work with wear Skechers Go Walks. They're amazing - and we've tried everything! But I do think they're bloody ugly. I saw some grey ombre ones which weren't too bad and if I were going on a holiday with a lot of walking I'd get them.

I also have feet that Converse haaaaate. It saddens me. Sad

What are Adidas Superstars or Stan Smiths like? Am seriously considering a pair for summer but I've never owned any so am a bit skeeeeered of buying them and finding they wreck my feet. Also are one style comfier than the other?

PirateSmile · 04/04/2016 17:55

I don't mean the 'flip flop' FitFlops. I mean the sneakers, like these www.fitflop.co.uk/en/womens/womens-sneakers/

The ballet pumps are very nice too.

squoosh · 04/04/2016 17:58

What are Adidas Superstars or Stan Smiths like?

Very comfy indeed, even for the butter footed!

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 04/04/2016 17:58

I've tried all manner of different makes of shoe but nothing matches Skechers. I don't care.

Hulababy · 04/04/2016 17:59

Now they are very ugly Remus, to be fair! Mine are not as bad as that, lol.

I have tried barefoot - that's no good either when you have such ridiculous feet.

Bear in mind that I once ended up in hospital having antibiotics being directly injected into my skin, all because of blisters. So many one got infected and was tracking up my leg, and by the time I went to the hospital (almost delirious with pain after trying to drive an hour home in the car with it) it was almost tracked to the top of my leg.

Try phoning up and telling work you won't be in for the next couple of days because of a blister!!! (because you are having to have injections in your leg every day)

Hulababy · 04/04/2016 18:01

No look with the Adidas Superstar, a couple of other Adidas, or Nike, or a couple of other trainer brands I tried. I have spent a lot of money on these things over the years!

Sparklycat · 04/04/2016 18:03

Love my converse! They last forever and ever, current pair is 5 and still going strong!

squoosh · 04/04/2016 18:07

Yikes, that does sound bloody horrific Hula.

VinoTime · 04/04/2016 18:09

It's not just you. I got my first pair when I was 18 and spent around 6 months trying to break them in. They became comfortable as soon as I had but it was a painful process! Having said that, they lasted me 6 years or something ridiculous. My second pair are pretty much the same. I can only really stand to wear them for a couple of hours. I dig them out every spring but usually end up in ballet pumps instead - much comfier!

My sister has loads of pairs and she wears them like feckin' slippers. She just slips them on, without socks, and off she goes. I'm like Shock HmmConfused

Hulababy · 04/04/2016 18:11

And that is why I am happy to stick to the Sketchers, squoosh
I'm afraid when I have to do any type of lengthy walking, then comfort is the thing that has to come first - blisters and arthritis makes comfort and health paramount.

I can save fancy nice shoes - albeit with the tiniest heel ever now due to the joints - for nights out :)

Annarose2014 · 04/04/2016 18:23

Without socks????

Cocolepew · 04/04/2016 18:42

Its a life hack squoosh Grin
Hula you appear to have feet made from spun unicorn hair Shock

BrendasGotABaby · 04/04/2016 18:46

My feet must have changed over the years, because I avoided Converse for many a year as they were just so, so uncomfortable.

However, bought a pair last year and they are the comfiest shoes ever bar my Uggs which I only wear indoors

I think you do have to break them in, if you can be arced with the blisters.

hiccupgirl · 04/04/2016 18:54

Another one who can't wear Converse due to wide feet. They are just the wrong shape and the sizes don't work for me.

Rocket Dog pumps are brilliant and I am a convert to Supergras having found a pair in TKMaxx to try. Really comfy to walk in due to a good thick sole and small arch support and plenty wide enough for my wife feet.

Cocolepew · 04/04/2016 18:55

Converse one star are comfier for those of a delicate disposion. They are more like a trainer the way Puma suedes are.

hazelnutlatte · 04/04/2016 19:05

I am a complete wimp when it comes to shoes and always go for comfort over style but I wear converse all the time and find them really comfy! Not for a 10 mile hike but fine for walking into town etc. I had some ballet flats from primark once - now they had properly thin soles, I could feel every bump in the pavement!

NicknameUsed · 04/04/2016 19:13

I bought these the other week. They simply don't compare to those grim monstrosities that Remus linked to.

notamummy10 · 04/04/2016 19:14

I have wide feet and can wear Converse perfectly! Although I do tend to buy the men's Converse which are 2 sizes bigger than the women's.

Like I have size 8 in men's which is size 10 in women's. I also use insoles too for the added support!

CutYourHairAndGetAJob · 04/04/2016 19:19

I have narrow feet and can't wear converse!
My DMs are great though.

I have a pair of converse which look great but hurt my feet. I will try replacing them and see if it helps.

I also have some skechers, I bought them with the excuse of pregnancy but still seem to wear them every day now ds is four months old Blush

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 04/04/2016 19:20

I have wide-ish feet and never had any problems with converse not fitting. I just get whatever colour I like in my usual size. I wouldn't ever really find myself walking miles in them, but they've always been fine for every day wear.

SwedishEdith · 04/04/2016 19:27

Too flat for me. Feel as though my toes are higher than my heels.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 04/04/2016 19:28

Dunlops are super comfy. I don't wear proper Converse very much - only time I will is for my wedding.
