Stylish sun hat

candykane25 · 31/03/2016 10:21

Please can you recommend where I can get a stylish sun hat that is practical, but doesn't make me look like a toddler?
I'll be heading to the states this summer and I'll be wearing mostly casual clothes for running after my DD. It'll be fairly active, not much sunbathing.
Baseball caps don't suit me and they're not my style anyway.
Thank you!

I got a nice one from Millets.

Do you have any camping stores or a Go Outdoors nearby?

candykane25 · 31/03/2016 11:39

I think we have a millets in my nearest town, never think to go in! Thank hello !

I'll be copying you candy, my current sunhat is blue with white spots.....and matches my 2 year olds'. I often buy a straw one from accessorize and then destroy it on the first day of my holiday.

Can I rock a Panama/fedora with casuals? I've looked at bucket hats but will it be too Oasis/Kevin the Teenager.
This afternoon in the garden I've been wearing sunglasses and a visor. Granny chic, not in a good way.

My last few sunhats have been trilby styles, like this.

candykane25 · 31/03/2016 19:01

I really really like that! Navy is perfect. Flowers dibbler

I second looking somewhere like Millets or Blacks. Any of the out door type of shops as walkers and trekkers often need them.
Happy hunting

Asos do a navy Panama. (Even if the model is wearing it all wrong) £22

candykane25 · 02/04/2016 11:15

Ooh thank you buzzard !

I almost always wear a straw trilby. Occasionally a straw cowboy hat, but I've got a small head and short hair, so not sure I carry it off well, the trilby has neater proportions. I can also fold it up in the suitcase, and reshape on arrival.

candykane25 · 02/04/2016 19:44

I think trilby is the answer. I am also small headed with shortish hair.

My stylish one doesn't pack well. My advice would be to go to a large department store, or the last one I bought was in Southwold (quite a few fancy shops selling beach gear).

PersisFord · 03/04/2016 19:27

Grin my head is enormous and I have loads of hair!!! I don't think it makes hat buying any easier!!

Glitteryfrog · 03/04/2016 20:11

I got a 'straw' fedora from h&m last year for about £10. I'm sure it came in sizes - small, med, large?

candykane25 · 03/04/2016 20:14

persis look at men's hats, they are a bit roomier.

PersisFord · 03/04/2016 20:39

That's a good idea! Do men have bigger heads??

herecomesthsun · 03/04/2016 20:42

cheap

candykane25 · 03/04/2016 22:59

persis you know what, I don't know the answer to that definitively!
But all men's stuff is usually cheaper. (I buy DD boys shoes, always cheaper)

Persis - I have a big head and lots of hair too. Got a lovely trilby in the men's department at Debenhams a couple of years ago (yes, they do generally come up in larger sizes).
