Good quality, long lasting plain t-shirts?

I've decided it's time I went through my wardrobe and either chucked or donated clothes that are scruffy or that I don't wear.
I normally buy plain t-shirts an vests from Primark but they are washed out and ratty looking within a month or two so I'm looking to invest in some a little more expensive that will last a lot longer. I was thinking maybe Matalan or GAP?
Any suggestions? Smile

I've got some long sleeved ones from Matalan and they wash well.
Wonderfully soft - i think they're labelled Modal

schmalex · 30/03/2016 16:29

I wouldn't recommend the Boden ones. Mine have come out in holes after one or two washes. They are lovely and soft and thin, but they don't last.
Watching with interest!

Me too was really disappointed with the Boden Breton top, looked like a rag & twisted after a couple of washes.

YY Matalan Modal (soft and lightweight but wash well)

Uniqlo (about £10 ) really good quality. I was a bit Hmm at my longsleeved one I bought recently , it looked really rough after I washed it, but once I put it on, the creases dropped out.

If I have a new or £ Tshirt, I wash in a laundry bag . My washing machine is an 8kg and likes to tangle things like leggings, things with drawstrings and long sleeves so I wash lots of things in laundry bags anyway!

The best short sleeved ones I've bought recently have been £3.99 in H&M. Nowhere seems to do what I really want though, which is mid-priced scoop necked, 3 quarter sleeves, mostly cotton but with a bit of elastane.

Gap = dreadful.

Howtocatchastar · 30/03/2016 19:09

H&m have been pretty good recently. I love been impressed - comfy, cheap...

I'm after some boat neck/slash neck tops - so if anyone happens to know where I could pick up tops with this particular neckline - please let me know! Incidentally, it was h&m
I last picked one up from, but that was years ago.

JolieMadame · 30/03/2016 19:10

Agree, Boden are shit - thin and go shapeless really quickly.

Next will last a season but length will shrink up eventually. M&S too short.

I'm going to try uniqlo next as I like their vests - anyone know if the t shirts are decent?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/03/2016 19:11

M&S stupidly short, and I say that as a short-arse.

JolieMadame · 30/03/2016 19:11

Sorry 70 I missed your post.

H&M are long enough but tend to cling over the tummy

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/03/2016 19:19

I have to buy a large in H&M - am a size 12.

cressetmama · 30/03/2016 19:30

Uniqlo are good and fairly true to size. I'm a 12 and their M is good; if I want a slouchy fit I go up a size.

Remus, I have a market stall in our small town that has good quality T shirts answering your requirements (not my stall); I think she also sells direct online... I could get a card and post details here? I have a couple and they are not bad. £15 ish, but decent quality, wash well, and don't lose their shape.
