Best brown hair dye?

I'm naturally brunette but I've been experimenting with different colours for years now. I've been varying shades of violet, blue, green and purple. At the moment, my hair is a silver/grey/white shade and while I'm reluctant to give up my whacky hair I think it's time to return to being a brunette. The cost and time/energy of maintaining my hair has become too much.
What brown hair dye would you recommend? I'm looking for a medium to medium/dark brown shade, light enough that it could never be confused as black. Any suggestions?

Nice'n'Easy always seems to be popular.
I used Superdrug for a few years (often on special offer).

My biggest piece of advice (and I never did it either) is Strand Test.
For some reason, brown always comes out much much darker. Not a huge problem (my hair is mid/dark brown IRL) but I'd buy mid brown and end up a bit Shakin' Stevens, (not the look I was aiming for Grin )

At the moment, I've gone from coppery blonde with highlights to henna coper brown .
I wouldn't advice henna unless you want to stick with it, it can react unpredictably with box dyes (especially if there's alot of indigo in henna)

I've just used castings iced truffle and I'm really pleased with it. Covers the greys without looking too "block" coloured .
