Casualish black dress

I've been looking for a casual black dress for ages now. I want it to have sleeves of some sort and ideally be quite mini but not too clingy. This one from M&S is the perfect length and shape but the fabric is absolutely revolting. Has anybody seen anything similar but in nicer fabric, please? I'm a short-arse, so it needs to be pretty short to be mini-ish on me!

Thanks for that heads up Botemp, managed to spend £250 while simultaneously soothing a teethy daughter back to sleep. Multitasking!

I came in to suggest the Boden one that has been linked to up thread. It's very good and I am not a massive Boden fan. Plus you can order Petite although it might not be short enough for what you're after.

Agree that Gerty's mum sounds fab!

Can't afford All Saints and their stuff doesn't suit me anyway - am too curvy, and norky and I just look like a bag lady.

I've decided the Boden one is a bit too wintery for what I'm after. Back to the drawing board. Will definitely have a mooch in the Cos sale.

How about Banana Republic?

Cos stuff is lovely but it's styled so badly on the website. Really off-putting.

Thank you all for your kind words re my Mum! She defo could have taught M&S a thing or two about what 80+ ladies like to wear (if they had done a Mick Jagger print silky scarf she'd have been first in the queue to buy it!!!) M&S STILL think old ladies like Michael Ball and Des O'Connor and go to bingo - like they think us women of a certain size want to wear a violent orange blouse and baggy cheapo polyester trousers!!!!! I just bought a size 18 "cold shoulder" tunic dress from River Island to wear with cropped leggings - stuff that up yer jaxxi M&S cos I'm over 50 !!!!
