Gucci watch battery

My mother passed on a Gucci watch to me (at least I think it is - I wouldn't have put it past my DF to have bought her a knock-off). I went to get the battery replaced today and was told in Timpson's that it would cost £65 - something about it being sealed. The man said that jewellers would charge the same and would probably send it away.

Does anyone know if that's true, and if there's any cheaper way to get it done? It's a nice watch, but to be honest I wouldn't even spend £65 on a new one.

I've got a Gucci watch, it cost me about £15 to get the battery replaced, although I was told it wouldn't be waterproof after. I'd look elsewhere if I were you.

Was that in a jeweller's, TommyandGina?

I have one too, It is expensive to have it done properly and re-seal it to maintain the water-resistance. I just got it done cheaply at a jeweller for a fiver and don't get it wet!

I got one and my dad did it! Just wedged it open. Tis fine.

Yes, just a normal high street jeweller, an independent one though, but am sure a H Samuel or similar could do it for you

Just go to a jeweller (preferably an independent one who specialises in watches who can normally replace it while you wait; the big chains are more geared for sales than maintenance).

Yes, they always tell you it won't be waterproof any more, but who puts a regular watch underwater anyway?

If it has a lifetime guarantee it has to go back to the manufacturer to have the battery replaced otherwise it warranty is not valid. Otherwise you can have it replaced anywhere. Sealed will cost more but as pp said it will be waterproof.
