Decent t shirts?

I'm sure this has been discussed on here a million times, sorry.

Every time I need new basic tops I swear I will buy decent quality this time, no more New Look/h&m/asos synthetics that bobble and go out of shape. But then I look at the prices and I end up buying cheap again in a panic.

I'm looking at Hush, Boden etc and thinking 'can I really spend £30 on a cotton t shirt?' Is it really worth it?

I'm looking for loose/boxy, short and long sleeves, vests, maybe linen Tees too, maybe a couple of more structured tops but basically plainish stuff, maybe some stripes. I find it hard to buy these things as I instinctively an drawn to prints and plain tops all look the same on the hanger.

Any tips, places to look? I guess around £20 per a t shirt is do able if worth it. Also as I have to buy online, places with free returns/discounts preferable!

Oh and I also quite like COS and &other stories but seem quite £££

I have Pima cotton ones from gap, organic cotton ones from h&m. Both lovely. Soft and wash well. Have seen some linen ones on h&m website that I'm going to look at in store, think they are £12. Have 2 stripe boden ones which are really nice weight cotton and look as good as new. Bought them in sale or with a code to bring cost down to a reasonable level. I make a point of only buying cotton now as synthetics just look awful so quickly.

Have a look on the outnet. I have invested in a few 'expensive' t's and I have to admit that they wear so much better than cheaper ones.

My favs are currently LNA, James Perse and Alexander wang.

Just about to purchase some more basics from there, t shirts are only about £20 at the moment

I like cos t-shirts, nice quality & cut, wash well. Mine all cost around £18 or under which I think is pretty reasonable! Their stripey tshirts are particularly good.

I think £30 or so for a t-shirt that lasts is pretty good value. I have a couple of Hush ones that have lasted well. J-crew do nice ones too.

And online St Tropez do nice stuff if you like prints - there's quite a bit of viscose there but it doesn't feel too synthetic (as opposed to the horrific poly/acrylic/modal crap in so many high st places like m&s etc). Also Selected Femme nice, and Second Female.

Thanks for the suggestions. Am going to have a look tonight. Wouldn't have thought of the outnet for Ts so thanks for that tip. I guess £20-£30 isn't so bad, but they're basically all I wear so I need to buy a good few, which makes my shopping basket well into the hundreds which scares me for a few tshirts!

I have three crew neck long sleeved jobs which have been going for over 4 years

Joules Harbour tops are also very good imho - try on on a store to get your size right but then look on eBay as usually can get a better deal there (Joules have their own outlet shop there too)

I agree with the outnet suggestion (and if you know specific brands yoox is good too especially with sales and discount codes). My favourites are Isabel Marant Etoile, T by Alexander Wang, Acne, and American Vintage. I also really like COS and have had great success with the linen, and silk blend t-shirts from the H&M Trend range (the ones with a pink label). With all of those the fit and material is far superior to your average t-shirt and imo worth the extra money. Saying all that, the most important thing with these 'premium' t-shirts is to adhere to the care instructions; washing at 30C and air drying (I dry them on a hanger so they keep their shape) otherwise you'll be tossing them out just as quickly as the cheaper ones.

Uniqlo are good but the button necked T Shirt I bought last year goes from wash to hanger and no creasing.
One this year (round necked long sleeve) looks like pooh. Wrinkled, crumpled. Need to iron the blighter.

Hello - don't give up on synthetics. The modern synthetics like tencel, bamboo and viscose are all made from wood fibre, and they have the same absorbency and cooling qualities as natural fibres like cotton and silk. I like them because they dry quickly and tend to be smoother than cotton. I have some great t-shirts I bought on amazon that are a cotton and tencel mix and they flare a bit around the waist so not tight or clingy on my spare tyre! Always a bonus. M&s do really nice ones. They are my staple work top as wash really well and are cheap. They are between £8-£10 each, unless you are near an outlet where they are 2 for £8 .

Lands End do good quality t shirts. Thick cotton that washes well. I'm not sure how I discovered them, because the rest of the clothes aren't really the sort of thing I would wear, but the T shirts are very good.
