LUSH henna - why has it took me so long to find this fabulous stuff?

God it's amazing. Been using box dyes for ages to cover the greys in my brown hair. My hair was in terrible condition, dry, thinning, breaking off etc.
Tried the reddy brown Lush henna, it's a gorgeous colour, plus has left it really glossy, hasn't been this shiny all over since I was in my 20s.
Did it about 4 weeks ago and the colour and shine is still as good as when I first did it. Will never use a box dye again.
Promise I don't work for them, just needed to share the love!

Well all washed out and dry. To dull and dark to post a picture today. Can't get good light to show the depth of the colour. Roots didn't take that well but all in all quite pleased. Not dissimilar to what I had but its darker and the shine is intense and of course the condition feels wonderful. Will definetly be doing it again. Think I will target the roots only in a couple of weeks with brun. Should have probably done that first!!!!

Greengardenpixie · 12/04/2016 14:26

Pictures a bit crap but best I could do in the dull light

That's lovely, still lots of red tones green garden- if you do your roots pretty soon with BRUN the layer you have on now acts as an undercoat and it will stick so much better.

Thanks. The roots aren't too bad with close inspection. I really like the colour but isn't that different from what I had really. My dd says its darker, which it is and over the couple of days the strand got darker [ lets hope not too dark] . I'm really pleased because its natural rather than processed more than anything else.

Greengardenpixie · 12/04/2016 19:03

How long do you think I should leave it before doing the roots? Will I just cover the whole top of my hair with brun?

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 12/04/2016 19:35

You can do it soon as you like. Just your roots or the whole lot. If you do the whole lot the colour will go darker/deeper.

Boris- how has your hair come out?

I think I will do just the roots. Think I will give it maybe a week or so. I will see how I feel :) Thanks for the info!!!

That looks fab, green! Really was what I was after - lovely brown with a hint of red. Can really see the red even in dull light - gorgeous!

Vincen and Cut, love both yours too. So shiny and the colour is fab too.

I love seeing everyone photos. So different on everyone. But we all have shiny, swishy hair in common now. Grin

I emailed Lush as I was wondering if maybe I'd been given the rouge instead of marron and wanted to know if there was any way to tell which block I had. They said it was printed on the block but I don't remember seeing anything but a pattern and the piece I have left only has a pattern.

If it was the marron I had then I'd be interested to see what the rouge would turn my hair! I'm not sure I'd ever be brave enough to find out.

Though I'm easily led (as evidenced by this thread) so am sure I'd let you lot convince me. Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/04/2016 21:58

I've just checked my block of brun (I have 4 cubes left) and it does have "Brun" under the "Lush" name.

I have a block of noir now and an empty bottle with the comb/lid (from a box dye) so The Plan is to make up a 50:50 Brun/noir ,a smallish amount very liquid and comb it in thriugh the bottle, to cover the roots. Then apply a slightly thicker henna all over.
Might work, might not.

There will be photos Grin, planning Fri/Sat (this will be my 2nd application)

Greengardenpixie · 14/04/2016 22:15

Ooooh very interested to know how it turns out. I want to do my roots over again. Think noir might be just a bit dark for me. Can we please have a before photo?? Showing the roots esp!!!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/04/2016 20:39

It's on my hair at the moment , a square of each (brune/noir) not quite Heinz Tomato Soup thickness maybe Heinz Ketchup.

I put a big plastic bowl in the bath, put my glass bowl inside it and leaned over the side. Just applied with my gloved hands as DD is out, I'm winging it alone.

I'll rinse at 11pm , didn't do a strand test FOOL being reckless.

I have a before picture (wince) and I'll do an after............

Greengardenpixie · 15/04/2016 21:36

Looking forward to seeing it. Have you used Henna before? I washed my hair today and its still lovely and shiny. Going to maybe do the roots when i am off next week and the kids are all out at school. Difficult though as i have my dd to pick up at lunch time which means that i dont know if i would have long enough. Need to think about it. I like to do it during the day so that I can see it properly. Have you really dark hair? Im considering maybe i could do with a bit of noir added to the brun to get a nice dying to my roots.

Greengardenpixie · 15/04/2016 21:37

You only have an hour and a half to go Wink
Are you doing the roots and then covering with henna another day?

Greengardenpixie · 15/04/2016 21:39

It still smells quite strongly of henna though. In fact i washed it because it was beginning to remind me of mosquito repellant!!!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/04/2016 22:01

I haven't got much hair Green I had a short crop and dd Henna over Easter (there's a photo earlier on this thread of my bouffanty highlighted dyed hair and my post cropped henna hair)

So the whole lot covered, my roots are quite dark (with the greys peppering them) , my original Henna (all brune) had lifted a bit as it was on the remains of my dye.

In a month or so I'll have the ends cut so the box dye is gone.
I don't mind the smell, it's quite hay like. I do mind not having my glasses on, they won't fit over my clingfilm and turbie wrap.
So I'm in a fuzzy haze...Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/04/2016 22:02

did Henna (see I do need my glasses) Blush

Greengardenpixie · 15/04/2016 22:09

I put my glasses on under the turban! Couldn't do not seeing for 3 hours!!!!!

Greengardenpixie · 15/04/2016 22:14

I looked back on the thread. You certainly had lots of changes hair wise. It was really blonde!! and long by the looks of it. Are you happy with the colour and the cut? I love getting something new.

MooMinCow · 16/04/2016 09:08

Hi quick question. I've got naturally dark shirt brown/black hair, 20/30% grey. I want a cool toned brown, not too dark or 'blocky', so I guess I shouldn't wrap in cling film/bag etc (as that encourages red tones)? But will that still cover the greys, and won't I leave a trail of dried henna everywhere after it dries on my head? (I remember using it in my younger days and still remember the crumbly mess!)

Haven't bought any yet, should I just go for Brun?

MooMinCow · 16/04/2016 09:09

Short hair, not shirt!

katiemorovsky · 16/04/2016 10:38

Hi, you should do a strand test with the brun. I think all except the noir have warm tones. Lush is very good at giving samples so you can test.

Greengardenpixie · 16/04/2016 18:06

70isalimitnotatarget how did you get on with your henna root treatment???

BorisJohnsonsHair · 16/04/2016 19:54

Sorry, forgot all about this thread. Well, I used the Maron on my dyed very dark brown hair and grey roots. I then had beautifully shiny, coppery brown hair ... with bright orange roots! Popped out the next day and bought the Brun to try to tone it down. So now I have slightly darker reddish brown hair ... wiith bright orange roots. I've tried to disguise it with dark brown dry shampoo, but am going to try the Brun again on the roots and leave it on for more than 4 hours this time.

A friend who'd used it before recommended adding coffee to it for a browner tint, red wine for a redder tint and beetroot for a purple effect, along with some yoghurt (?) and to leave it on all night.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/04/2016 20:19

I'll post a photo once DD gets away from Britains Got Talent Grin

I have pretty good cover , I did the whole head (short hair).
No red at all, but I don't think I'd do entire 'Noir' on mine.

I love the colour and the softness (sooo soft Grin ) but my hair hasn't got the glass like gloss of other users on this thread, but my hair is short/layers so maybe once it's grown a bit.

When I used BodyShop Henna years ago, I added coffee/beetroot vinegar to alter it.

Greengardenpixie · 16/04/2016 20:46

Thats geat 70isalimit :)

Nightmare Boris :( Actually that is my nightmare!!!
