Soooooo, enlighten me. What's a Day Dress?

I know it's not an Evening Dress or Cocktail Dress.

But is it just a lightweight cottony smarter than a stretchy TShirt material type?

(I have a navy paisley A line with buttons down the front, as yet unworrn. It's not something I'd float round doing housework in and my work calls for a uniform so I won't wear it there)

I've never seen the term except on S&B

It's just a casual dress. Material or cut not really important.

As pp said, it's any casual dress that you might wear day to day. Some online shops use the term, I think because they had a section for evening dresses, a section for work dresses, and then thought 'what do we call all these nice comfy wearable dresses?'

WhereDidAllThoseYesterdaysGo · 11/03/2016 18:10

It's a dress you'd wear in the day say for coffee with friends, work if dress code is q casual or whatever.

Personally I wouldn't wear one for house work but I think it's allowed!

Where is that striped one from Crystal?

fatherpeeweestairmaster · 11/03/2016 18:43

It's a dress without sequins, interesting splits or illusion panels. Thus, you will never find a 'day dress' in Per Una.

dudsville · 12/03/2016 04:02

In addition to what's been said, I prefer mine to also have pockets. Not something that comes to mind as a priority in other dresses.

Yseulte · 12/03/2016 10:26

Online shops usually have a category of 'day dresses' as opposed to 'going out dresses', it's not a MN term.

Ah, no Per Una here (thankfully)
My navy paisley dress was bought purely because I love paisley print and I'll wear it on holiday (the after sunbathing, have a shower, find something light and non clingy type dress)
