Edgy dress for French wedding

Starting my search early.... I have a wedding to go to in France this summer and I know people don't get dressed up there like they do in the UK (I got married in France) but I don't know what to wear.

I'd like a dress, size 14, short or elbow length sleeves. Not a very round neck (I'm an hourglass so am best with scoop or v neck, cinched waist). Any colour but white. I like edgy clothes but not 50s / 60s styles. I'm the wrong side of 40, dark hair, pale skin. Any thoughts on where to start?

I found lovely things in ted baker when I had a similar brief a couple of years ago.... Love the anthropologie one, wondering if I can find similar in navy. I have a wedding to go to soon, but black wouldn't be okay for this one.

too sleeveless?

Have a look on Does my Bum Look 40 style blog - she's just done a whole section on occasion dresses and they are really interesting.

I think black will be too hot for a summer wedding.

I've been to loads of French weddings as my husband's French (currently based in Paris). They've all been formal & super-smart. Although they're a posh bunch tbh. Only real difference is that the French party all night.

If you're in the US, J Crew always reliable for dresses. Kate Spade. And DvF is a personal favourite of mine - much cheaper in the US than Europe.

I bought DvF 'Gypsy' dress last season and it's stunning.

Available here in US10/UK14

Checkout their sale on the US website.
