Pencil skirts/denim skirts??

Looking for advice on nice tops to wear with pencil skirts casually.
Better still denim pencil skirts with a front slit?
I'm not sure if it's a horrific fashion faux pas or not but I like it...- just need to figure out the top and also the shoes to carry it off?

Or do I just return it..

Denim pencil skirts are good because they match lots of things.

I usually wear them with a tucked in blouse and heels, a black scoop neck top and kitten-ish heels or a turtle neck and flat boots. I'd never wear a vest like the model as I hate my arms!
