Oh Auriga. SadFlowers I hope DM is comfortable and DSis gets through the next few weeks OK.

MrsS, I did have a little giggle at your comment about DM's DNR.

Crem - what did we tell you?? Stay in bed tomorrow - that's an order.

Regarding my job-hunt; well, the Richmond job I was interviewed for came to nothing, but I was secretly relieved, as I really would rather not travel that far every day. I have done a few more applications, but no bites yet.

Blackduck · 08/03/2016 06:04

Here care home has fallen through so back to square one with Dmum. Who had another chest infection at the weekend so on and off drips etc..... Dementia v. Bad too, but better yesterday.

Cremo stay in bed and read a good book.

bigTillyMint · 08/03/2016 06:55

Oh no BDSad I guess it is a nursing home rather than a care home that she needs now? DM is in a nursing home so should be able to stay there till the end. There are a lot of care/nursing homes where she is as there are so many OAP's there. Fingers crossed for her/you all.

CV, it wasn't meant to be, but good practice all the same - keep on at it!

Yes Cremo, books and TV only!

Blackduck · 08/03/2016 07:06

Long story, they could support her but wouldn't take the money from the council (different borough) instead wanted shedloads from my dad. Not sustainable. So looking again.

She does need round the clock care, very very frail and these constant infections.....

Just very very tired and on Friday found a lovely line in the public audit document which basically described all admin as 'lax'.... So feeling a tad undervalued at the minute.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/03/2016 07:52

BD, that's grim. I'm so sorry.

I am not firing on all cylinders at work at the moment and I think my boss is working up to having words with me.

bigTillyMint · 08/03/2016 07:57

MrsS, surely that is understandable given your health concerns ATM? Is your boss exceptionally good at her job and faultless?
I thought notWink

motherinferior · 08/03/2016 08:06

Oh, BD. SadThanksBrew

I have had decent sleep and a Ladyjog and am going to put words on the page.

Blackduck · 08/03/2016 08:50

MrsS I'd be having words with your boss..... She has hardly been supportive of you since you started....
but then when ours describe the whole lot of us as lax to the auditors I am not sure it would make a blind bit of difference.

Just makes the job hunt even more of an imperative.

hattymattie · 08/03/2016 09:26

BD - very exhausting and stressful. My thoughts are with you.

Am working this afternoon - Herbs - hope the teenagers are being good.

herbaceous · 08/03/2016 09:48

I only have the teens for 20-30 mins this afternoon. Thank the lord.

BD and Auriga. All just horrible. Try and carve out a mental oasis for yourselves, if at all possible.

I now have to go and collect car from garage, to whence it was towed last night. Dread to think how much they're going to charge me...

OP posts:
CremoLafoam · 08/03/2016 10:38

Herbs. You sound like you know your engines so at least you'll not be done over. I always used to dread the garage bill as I know nothing of cars except I know the ones that look pretty. I always feel like I'm being taken for a ride. Btw excellent title, I forgot to say yesterday.
Surely 20 mins with the teens is not long enough to do anything except an educational game?
Good luck anyway Herbs

Happy international Women's Day to you all. I have so much admiration for every single one of you. You are all a huge source of strength and encouragement to me and in to all your families. kBO.

( Sister, I am in bed with the cat and the iPad. Zooming temperature today to add to list of complaints: what is this virus ffs?)

motherinferior · 08/03/2016 11:15

And a happy IWD from me too. You lot really are a Tower of Strength. Even when a Wobbly Tower Grin Wine

Cousin now ensconced chez parents for a week and actually I feel much reassured.

Auriga, Molly and I are fans of Liane Moriarty. Good, well-written accessible women's fiction. Also Elinor Lipman is a much under-rated joy in the UK.

Collymollypuff · 08/03/2016 11:30

Yes, good call, MI - I was thinking of Liane Moriarty as a recommendation last night in bed. Smile

Happy IWD, everyone. CV, sorry about the Richmond job, but better things will come along.

BD, sounds awful with your dmum and your job, poor you. Thanks Crem, just make sure you recover before the weekend! The cat and the iPad sound ideal. And sleep! As much as you can! GET BETTER.

Rosebag · 08/03/2016 12:25

Oh dear BD, that's hard. DDad went in to a home which had both facilities. He was on the nursing home part of it as he needed considerable medical care, rather than the dementia part. I do hope you find another option soon and that DM gets over this infection which must surely be exacerbating her other symptoms. Flowers

crem you must get better for this weekend!! Look after yourself xx

mrsS you need time off to recover. It's your right, after all. Flowers

Cv you were too good for them. Let's see what else comes up.

I have just bought DH a beautiful leather messenger bag from john Lewis, for our anniversary next week. I have consulted Ds1 in Aus who assures me that 'across the body' man bags are very trendy at the moment. I suspect DH will eye it suspiciously. I think I will just explode if he crams another pile of crap into his pockets. He looks like a wide load coming down the street these days. Grin Last year I got him Ugg slippers which he loves and wears daily at home. we won't mention the two paperbacks, unwrapped, he threw at me in return

I am late to the party and have never heard of IWD...but I too would like to celebrate each and every gem of a woman on the Crepey thread and say how having you in my life is a source of great pride and privilege. Star

I have received a directive from the charity I walked out on recently to return paperwork pertaining to the course I was supposed to teach for next to nothing I presumably have no right to demand return of all the course programmes I wrote for nothing, though Hmm Sad

On a happier note my pink poncho from Kettlewell arrived and I love it. I am very tempted to get the other colourway but hesitating because ponchos can't be worn all that much over the seasons, although I am happy to use it as a layering sweater. Impressed as this is the first thing I have ever bought from there. Smile although sometimes I worry that I keep things just from the sheer relief that they fit.....

herbaceous · 08/03/2016 12:30

Well well well.

Went to collect car, credit card braced for a beating, but the Absolute DREAMBOAT of a mechanic charged me a mere...

...wait for it...

£60! Which is the trade price of the new battery! No charge for towing, or for labour. And as they don't take cards, I can just drop a cheque in 'whenever'.

Oof. He was all oily and smiley.

I shall be returning often, with a litany of minor motoring complaints.

GrinGrinsnort @herbs, that's a result !lol

Collymollypuff · 08/03/2016 13:14

Herbs, that is the way to spend the morning. Grin The world should be peopled with oily smiley lovely men like that, sigh.

Rose, I am so sorry that charity is treating you so badly. It is so shit. Don't let it affect you. Grrrrrrrr from me. Angry When that kind of thing happens to me, I start internal ranting in my head about "I'll report you to the Charity Commission! I'll write to all the committee members!" However, it is all just internal head ranting - they are not worth the time, and it would not make things better, probably. Sad However it does help me to remember that I do have some power when wronged, namely the power to campaign for justice. Very IWD. Wink

motherinferior · 08/03/2016 13:29

Rose, I suggest you point out to them that you would like the materials back because they're part of your professional practice and you will of course need them for other courses you've been asked to teach. This will worry them. A lot. Amateurs.

And seriously, pitch them elsewhere. You've got a course you designed and implemented. Go for it. Set up a website and write some fab copy!

bigTillyMint · 08/03/2016 13:33

Herbs, lucky you!

Rose, surely those ponchos are thin enough to be good for most seasons? And that is very generous, buying him a leather bag, given that he never remembers/marks your birthdays very well.

My friends mum has just text me - went to see DM today and she had had her hair done, has moved into her new (and hopefully permanent, ie she will not ask to move again!) room and was looking good. She also bumped into another friend of DM's who was leaving and who had also had her ear bent by the friend who sent the text last week and still hasn't replied to me

magimedi · 08/03/2016 13:43

BD - that's just so awful. I hope somewhere can be found asap for your DM.

Mrs S - your boss sounds poisonous.

Rose - agree with getting your material back from the charity.

BTM - just let that 'freind' go - I suspect you won't hear from her & that she won't visit your DM again.

And Happy IW day to everyone. I haven't been a Crepey for very long but it has become my favourite place on the internet.

Lalsy · 08/03/2016 14:32

Oh, BD. Flowers. And Auriga. Much strength to you both.

Rose, have you a contract? Does it specify IP rights for work created on the course of fulfilling contract? My professional and volunteering ones all seem to include clauses on that now. If yours doesn't, I'd assert your rights pronto - look up the form but AFAIR you just have to say this is mine yah boo.

herbaceous · 08/03/2016 15:15

Rose - they're just sabre-rattling. Ignore. Or ask for your work back, which will shut them up. Tosspots. Don't know what they've got.

Lesson with scary teens was ok! Went a bit rambly and off piste. Bit helped by having to drive home to get my lesson plan as I could open it on college computers.

Re Oily Dreamboat, I tell you crepeys he's got me feeling things I thought I didn't feel any more. [sauce]

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 08/03/2016 15:25

Our sports coaches have just brought in chocolates for IWD. For the womenGrin

MM, I also suspect I won't hear from her again, but I think she might still visit DM as she has been lovely to her for years and they have many friends in common - maybe too embarrassing to not visit again!

Herbs, glad your lesson went wellStar

Lalsy · 08/03/2016 15:40

Oily dreamboat s a good name for a gin-based cocktail.......

hattymattie · 08/03/2016 17:16

Rose - they sound awful - I'd just ignore and see if they can be bothered to chase. Or ask for your stuff first before you send theirs.

BTM - nice getting chocs for IWD and glad DM seems so happy.

Herbs - teenagers sound nicer than the last year of primary which I was covering this afternoon - little horrors.
